Rainbow Trout Extended - 03/16/20 09:30 PM

A side benefit of stocking rainbow trout in your pond for bass forage is a few will outgrow the size that a bass can easily swallow..and these offer great angling and dining opportunities.
We're eating rainbows tonight and several nights to come. Another benefit is no limit!

Yes, Bass absolutely love rainbows and I'm told the protein from trout is the perfect food for putting weight on bass.

When the water warms, the bass have a much easier time of catching those trout.

Texas Parks&Wildlife stocks Rainbow Trout every year across Texas from late November all the way to mid March. They put out a schedule of all the places throughout Texas that are going to be stocked. The schedule shows location, date, and number of fish that are going to be stocked at that location. The schedule is posted on their Web Site. They will post 2020/2021 schedule in early November. thumb

These trout will die off when warmer weather starts setting in. I do know that you can catch Rainbow Trout year around on the Guadalupe River in an area below Canyon Lake. coolio

I kind of figured that! I had a good year catching trout on the fly. Used my 5wt. Sinking Red Lady Bug and a sinking Yellow/Green Grasshopper got the best results. woot

I've used a 3wt with a variety of nymphs like PT, Prince, Zug bug and they eat 'em up.

Nice fish Meadowlark. I might also add the Striped Bass also loves those stock trout especially on the Guadalupe River!
