Pre "ARCTIC FRONT" Sunnies&Rios! - 11/11/19 09:15 PM

Myself and Rick aka Catyakker did some Pre Arctic Front fishing. We fished yesterday (Sunday) from 2p to 5p and caught approx 50 fish. No small ones. We caught Bluegill in the 7 to 8 inch range, Redbreast in the 9 to 10 inch range, Rios in the 8 to 9 inch range, and a couple of Large Mouth Bass in the 1 to 2 pound range. We fished a South Texas creek and it seemed that the fish were on the move searching for food. All fish were caught using "The Bait of Champions" worms and were released. Fish were caught in 4 to 6 feet of water holding close to overhanging tree limbs. The creek is in good shape but can use some rain. Float and bottom techniques were used on ultralight tackle. Rick went out again today and fished a couple of locations. He caught plenty of nice Redear in the 8 to 9 inch range and called me and said. "You should have gone fishing". "The bite was non stop"! After this current front blows through I got a good feeling that the bite will be slowing down or shutting down in the shallower water. Catching a bunch of Pre Arctic Front sunfish and Rios. It just don't get any better. fish

Thanks Leo! I fished both the Canyon and Sabinal Valley last week and the sunfish bite was very slow! I did manage to catch a bunch of Guadalupe Bass and a few Longear. I also did not see any nice sunfish or Rios. Have you been seeing any or catching any in the Canyon? thumb

Yep...pre front fishing should never be passed up. Sunday was a dandy, but in no comparison to what I experienced today. Tried to talk Banker into going but he told me the front was expected to hit around noon and he doubted the fish would be feeding much anyway. Got to one of our local community pond around 10 am and the only thing I could snag were dinks in my normal slab holes. I Decided to leave around noon, telling myself I should listen to master Chuck more often. As I was walking back I noticed an area I had never fished before that still had grass showing about 3 feet under the surface. Readjusted my slip bobber to about 4 ft deep and made my first cast. The bobber no more than settled and it started going sideways when I pulled the trigger on a 9 inch Redear. Long story shortened up a bit I caught over 20 Redears most all between 8 - 9 1/2 inches by 130 pm when the front finally came in with some light rain. Here is a pic of one I just had to send to Banker to show you just never know unless you go. wink [Linked Image]

We caught a few weekend before last but this past weekend didn't catch any rios bang

Side note: we didn't see hardly any big gills on the surface. All the ones we caught were down on the bottom in 20fow hanging out with the crappie

Nice fishing guys. All of these fronts blowing in is making the sunfish bite more difficult. Looks like another big front will be blowing through on Monday.
Hope we get some rain. How are the water bodies you are fishing holding up? Again great post and fish. woot

Thanks Chuck. Judging by the last several fronts that have blown through some of the areas around us got some descent rain while the local area got very little. nuts

Completely agree with the rain. We have had some days of "rain" but it has been more of a heavy mist and not the winter rains I remember of course looking back at old journals it looks like the end of January and the beginning of February is the coldest and wettest period. Here's to hoping and praying.

Thanks Chuck. I do not think we will have cold of a winter this year. I sure hope that we have a super wet winter and spring. Water bodies can use it. banana (The Famous Rain Dance).
