An old fishing and hunting bud and I went to Fayette and fished Monday and Tuesday mornings. He's been wanting to go to Fayette and fish for perch as he loves to catch them and eat them. Conditions were excellent both days. Some cloud cover, not overly hot, and low winds. Water temp 88F. We fished mostly with red wigglers on down shot rigs but also caught some on a few artificial baits. The "sabiki rig" was a surprise at how well it worked. We caught a LOT of perch. I would say about 50 on each day. We kept about 15 to clean each day. We fished from daylight until about 10AM on each day. Mostly bluegill with a few red ear hybrids. Monday we caught 5 bass and today we caught 4, all on the red wigglers. Most of the sunfish were from 7 to 9 inch range. Also one channel cat that went about 4 pounds. We fished with ultra light tackle. 6 lb Nanofil with 4 lb mono leader. All fish caught in about 6 foot of water. The manager at the motel we stayed at recommended "Las Fuentes" restaurant in La Grange for lunch. We ended up going there both days. Superb food. Everything went our way on the trip. We also had a visit on the lake from Steve Vogey who was there fishing today. Just a wonderful fishing trip at "The Best Little Perch Lake In Texas".
