July Foruth Week Fishing Report! - 07/07/18 01:15 AM
Was able to get two days of fishing in during the Fourth of July week. I fished Thursday and Friday after the Fourth! Fished two hill country rivers from kayak and the bite was good both days. The fresh water form these past rains had the fish active. The water was clearing but still a little cloudy. I fished from 7am till 12 noon both days. Caught Longear that were stagged at the ends of currents. Bluegill were stacked under over hanging tree limbs and by the edges of grass beds. Redbreast were holding by brush piles close to the bank and by grass beds. Also picked up a few nice Rios and bass that were holding by brush piles close to the bank. Used both fly rod and ultralight spinning tackle. Brown Salamanders, Chartreuse/Yellow Grasshoppers, and a Chartreuse/Black Crawdad got good results on the fly. Red/White Rooster tails,Chartreuse/Black Little Georges, and a small silver Rattle Trap were the baits that got good results on the spinning gear. The rivers really needed the rain and both can use a lot more. Caught about 30 to 40 fish each trip. All were released to fight again. Biggest Bluegill was 9". Biggest Longear was 6.5". Biggest Redbreast 9.75". Biggest Rio was 9" and the biggest bass was about two pounds.
