2001 Z71 - Airbag warning light

The airbag light on the dashboard will not go off. Manual says possible electrical issue. Is there somewhere to check without having the dash removed? Or just ignore it.

To read airbag codes you'll need a scanner. The regular store bought code readers don't read them. I'm not sure if a auto part store has the type of reader but you might call them and ask. Get the code and post it here and I can probably help.

You can check something that is common first your self. Start the vehicle and observe the airbag indicator and make sure it stays on. Then wiggle the yellow connectors under the seats one at a time where it comes from the floor and connects to the seat. They are accessed from the rear of the seat and might have a little black cover over them. If indicator goes out then there is the problem. You can get the connector with leads from the dealer.

This was the answer I was hoping to get. I figured it was a wiring harness somewhere, just didn't know where to look. Gracias Amigo.

My 2002 Ranger would do that some time. I found the plug under the seat and a wiggle or two while pushing the plugs together would fix it.

Any update on what causes the airbag warning light issue? We've just finished installing the new tires and xd wheels on a 2002 Z71 when the airbag light came on. We will try the scanner this weekend and see.

Check the wiring under the seats. Usually a loose connection.

Mines been on for years, 2005 GMC Duramax, guess I need to look under the seat.

cast, which one do you have and how do you like it? mine covers abs but not srs, i was looking at the autolink for just over 100 but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet

ps, i brainfarted in my post above awhile back and meant srs, not abs

Don't remember, but it was expensive. I've let a couple pro mechs use it and they loved it.

Had same issue on my z71 and scanner revealed it was one of my front bumper sensors. Easy DIY repair...

Just curious, but they give you an inspection sticker with the warning light on?

Yes, mines been on for awhile.
