Ford 3.5 v6 turbo

Ford 3.5 v6 turbo - 03/04/21 04:06 PM

Is anyone towing a boat 19 ft or larger with this motor? If so, what are your thoughts? I'm old school and I am use to a Chevy 5.7 V8. Don't want to take a chance and be disappointed. I'm looking at a 2015 model with just over 100k miles and I just want to use it for towing my 19.5 bass boat. Most trips are 30 miles round trip, but I like to go to Falcon 2-3 times a year and it's a 1000 miles round trip. Any feedback would be great.

It'll tow circles around a 5.7l or 5.3l. There is really no comparison but it's overkill for a bass boat.

I pulled a Phoenix 721 with a 3.5 Ecoboost, never knew it was there. Bought an Phoenix 819 and it is not an issue. I use the tow/haul mode and roll on down the highway. Depending on the day I get 12-14 mpg towing in my 2wd 2016 F150.

3.5 eco is a bad machine. Wont even know that rig is back there, I wouldn’t hesitate to go up to a 24-25’ center console with a 3.5 eco.

Echo what others have stated: I tow a 2005 Ranger Z20 with a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L Eco...and the Ford has a little lift kit to it, which can take a bit away from towing...all said, I can comfortably tow the Ranger with no problem/concerns.

And then theres the pricing of FORD. Ridiculously higher than others....looked into them for buyjng truck for my daughter at graduation. Nope way too high. At least in San Antonio

Exactly!

If you priced all of the Big 4, GM/Chevy, Ford, Ram, and Toyota Tundra, I bet here isn't 2% difference in the price of comparably equipped models.

Now if you priced a stripped down model versus a F-150 Limited then I could believe that.

2016 is the best year model for what you want.

I'm currently towing a 27ft Seahunt Gamefish with my 2019 F150 4x4 ecoboost. The truck has the towing package and is rated at 12,700lbs. I'm not screaming up hills at 80mph but I also can't justify $80k on a new F250.

Owned a 2012 and 2015 3.5 Ecos. They tow amazingly well. The 2015 seldom downshifted on hills, it just made boost.

A 2.7 ecoboost tows my 21' glass boat with ease, I think the 3.5 will be fine.

This. I just bought a 2.7. The dealer let me take it home one weekend to see how it pulled my boat. No problem towing it up and down the hills of Alabama.

Stopping it can be an issue if you don’t have trailer brakes. Pulls a 22 Majek Extreme fine. Plenty of power. About 10 to 12 mpg.

Stopping is only an issue if you start getting north of the 6,000 lb range. But that rig with 3.55 or 3.73 gears should handle most anything up to about 24’ both pulling and stopping without issues.

That's the engine that I have in my F-150 but haven't towed with it yet. I have no doubt it'll do it and more. We took the maiden voyage to AR with it loaded down in the bed and back seat just recently and I got 19.8mi/gal on the highway. I was happy with that.

I have had a 3.5 Ecco Boost and it pulled excellent.
It pulled better than my 5.3 and excellent passing power.

I was wondering about the 2.7.
They are pushing 325hp.
