Curiosity on my part, I have considered buying an ecoboost.
Did you have the dealer fixit? Any prices from other shops? From what I remember hearing that isn't much less than what it costs to replace/rebuild the turbos.
Have you looked on youtube to see if it is a DIY possibility?
I went to two other mechanics and they said they would not even attempt the repair. It is being fixed by a master ford tech that works for a dealer but is doing it on his own time. He is a friend of mine. He said if it was dealer billed it would be a $2k fix. I am not paying that but it still is not cheap. $400 in parts alone. I did plenty of research on it and yes you could do it yourself but the turbos are so hard to get to and my lack of mechanical expertise deterred me from that. He tells me they see this problem a lot with the older and high mileage ecoboosts. Mine is a 2011 with 160,000 miles and this is the first mechanical repair I have had to have done.
