Been a While! - 11/17/22 02:52 AM

I might've taken a brief hiatus from the forum but of course I couldn't take any time off from fishing! I'll post a few fish for y'all every day or so in this thread until I'm all caught up.

Here's some from a dicey spawn trip out East. The lake was incredibly low and with the timing we weren't sure if the fish would be spawning or not when we got there. Still got into a few though!

We had some crazy weather come in on the first night, I had just laid down in the bedchair to get to sleep when the rain started. The storm picked up very quickly and soon we were in a downpour, with the wind whipping at some serious speeds. My bivvy caught a huge gust and unseated itself from the ground, with the only thing keeping it from blowing away into the darkness being the tensioning strap that was caught on the underside of the bedchair, with me in it! I struggled to see anything without my glasses and headlamp in the darkness as my table had been blown away and I'm functionally blind without glasses. Thankfully through all the chaos we were able to fold up the bivvy and put bags of bait on top to keep it from blowing away. Slept in the car that night, only to find that the structural poles for the bivvy had been shorn through. Ended up sleeping in the car the whole trip!

Here's a few from a trip that was almost ruined due to a cold front! My parents and brother joined me for the first time, and after hyping up the amount and size of fish we'd catch (based on my other trips) I was a bit disappointed with what we'd gotten - but we caught and that's all that matters!

Dad with the first fish, a nice Ghostie!

Check out what came in attached to this Common! This is a Chestnut Lamprey, a native species and a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Slimy little fella!

Water piggy

Justin with a decent Common

His first 30+!

Gorgeous colors on this one

This fish was a hair below 40, I would say I was disappointed but how can you be?!

Mom with a good Common

[Linked Image]
Demonstrating the power of perspective (although it is a decent fish!)

Triple! Action heated up a day or so after the cold front

Ok, where did you catch these monsters at that also included the chestnut lamprey? I have never seen one of those little fellas lol.

Does look like the cold front that blasted through limited you on the size alright, NOT! LOL I always like to refer to these fish as the freshwater Bullreds, they remind me of the Bullreds down in the Gulf. Heck I have caught more than a few of them and thought several was really big trophy fish too, least till I see all these huge Carp you have here, those bullreds were half the size of these freshwater monsters lol...

Freaking awesome fish man and again great pix. I have such a hard time getting any good pix for one reason or the other.

Here are some miscellaneous catches throughout the year:

[Linked Image]
A decent one-eyed Ghost Carp from a local gravel pit. The cool thing about this fish is that she actually had two of my rigs in her mouth when I caught her! The one I hooked her with, and one from the week prior when she broke me off. Same spot, same bait. I should've gotten a photo of them both but unfortunately it didn't occur to me at the time.

[Linked Image]
Dad with his first ever Koi. Finally! One I've caught before as well fish

[Linked Image]
My brother with a surprise Blue Sucker from a session where we waded all day through a creek catching a variety of species, all the way down to the Red River!

[Linked Image]
Corbin fighting two fish at once at a productive spot on the river.

[Linked Image]
Both landed successfully!

[Linked Image]
Parker with his first Buffalo

[Linked Image]
Tuker with a decent Common

[Linked Image]
And his first Common! Many PBs set that day

[Linked Image]
Gnarliest Common I've ever seen! This river isn't exactly the friendliest of habitats

[Linked Image]
My work buddy with his final PB Buffalo of the day. I passed him over 30 fish, he was exhausted by the end!

[Linked Image]
Another day with a lot of PBs! Daniel with his first ever Buffalo

[Linked Image]
Mary with her first!

[Linked Image]
A surprise Grasser for Hannah!

[Linked Image]
Hannah with her PB Buffalo, she had the two biggest fish of the day

[Linked Image]
Andres with the only Common we caught

Dude these pix rock. That big common with its tail all chewed up is a first for me to see on fish that size lol. Obviously there is some really giant gar or some four legged animal, where your fishing. These fish are the biggest carp and Buffalo I have ever seen here in Texas, I am guessing these from Texas.

All my fish are from Texas unless otherwise specified! Thanks man, there are definitely some mondo Gar in that location as well, no doubt they enjoy snacking on the Carp and Buffs there.
