Buffalo are soooo fun to catch. I’m surprised more people don’t target them.

Not a status symbol. Everyone thinks they are dumb extremely easy to catch.

I know I really like catching them. There are some really nice monsters in PK, and have been for years.

Nice video. Buffalo are fun to catch and get really big. In Texas we have smallmouth buffalo, bigmouth buffalo and black buffalo. They are fun on a conventional rod and reel and I have caught many of them with a fly. Here is the state record black buffalo on a fly rod.

What water temperature are we looking for, for the shore fishing to pick up?

For me, it seems that buffs bite better in the fall as the water cools. This may be because they move out of the deeper summertime waters and are more easily reachable from the bank. That said, I have caught buffs during all seasons.

Not to mention buffs, carp, the entire family are excellent table fare when processed properly. We gut, scale, then chunk them in pieces that will fit in a quart canning jar adding only a tbsp of ketchup,it adds a small amount of salt and a nice pink color(think salmon). Then pressure cook them.............in my opinion these make better croquets than the store bought salmon on the shelves. They are also delicious right out of the jar with crackers, mustard, cheese. The larger bone, spinal column, can be picked out just as you would canned salmon, the smaller bones will disintegrate during the canning process.
