Species Identification Needed - 07/03/20 03:39 PM
Been years since I targeted rough fish. Chummed the bank with cattle range cubes for three days straight. Went out with my daughter this morning using hair rigs and homemade Boilies. Both personal bests. 24 and 26. Are they small mouth or big mouth buffalo?
Thanks in advance!!

They are grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). They are a potentially harmful exotic species in Texas and must be removed from the waterbody, unless they are triploid (non-reproducing) specimens that are stocked for vegetation control under a grass carp permit. If they are stocked under a permit they have to be released. There is a county list on Texas Parks and Wildlife showing where they need to be released.
Nice fish. As already been stated. Grass Carp.
