Time for me to catch some trotline bait

Well my favorite carp spot is a next to the Rocking S bar and Grill on Lake Granbury. If it doesn't rain anymore tonight I am going to be there early at the crack of dawn. Don't worry I won't keep any weighing more than 6 pounds or so to be scaled, filleted and cut into 3/4' by 4-5" strips. However there are some big ones there and since I only go there a couple of times a year I thought I would spill the beans where it is for you catch and release types. Don't hate me for actually using a resource just like Crappie, catfish, Sand bass etc. fisherman do.

You do your thing, that's fine. Posting that you are killing carp here in a section that is populated by catch and release anglers won't win you any fans. Thanks though for the heads up an where a few may be caught.

Well constant catch and release of smaller fish is not doing the big fish population any good, would you like to have more big fish or lots of small fish? I personally feel that you are not exactly on the moral high ground if your idea of fun is slamming a hook into a fish, wearing it out and throwing it back for no other reason than the fun part. Maybe you should rename the forum to Catch and release Carpers who refuse to manage the population to better it.

I would personally never keep a Carp and always advocate catch and release but I can understand keeping the small ones, especially if you release the big girls. Good luck out there Rick

That location used to be much better when the deck of the restaurant had a cut-out where the restaurant customers would feed the fish lol. The lake looks like chocolate milk with floating trash right now so it may be tough to fish. An average adult female carp lays 300,000 eggs in a spawn, so harvesting a few for bait probably won’t wipe out the population.

It appears you are the troll, advocating for overpopulation of a fish species which results in smaller average size of the species. The thread where the same fish was caught 3 times in 3 years shows that it grew slowly and is still skinny, not ideal or is that how you like to keep a fish population skinny and hungry?

This is what happens when anglers do not make an effort to control carp populations. Note water quality issues carp cause when their population is too high. Notice there are zero studies to remove fish like crappie and bass other than the use of fishing.

Plus #2. I might add as long as they are caught legal the angler has the right to do what ever he want's. As for me I release most of my fish with the exception of keeping some for the frying pan. (I do not eat carp). I always release Trophy Fish and bigger fish no matter what type they are.

Same here, anything over ten pounds gets put back in the water. What I am getting at is this, if people that fish for carp don't start trying to control the over all population of them the powers that B just might. A virus that effects only carp has been developed and kills between 75-95% of the carp in any given lake can easily and cheaply be released. The real expense is cleaning up the dead carp. You are right about the customers feeding the fish as I was one of them at times. In fact I made a dough bait from those very chips which worked out very nicely. Going to put off my trip there until it warms a bit, maybe Tuesday.

That virus idea is reckless. No telling if they release it what might happen - it has the potential to spread and wipe out Carp that people farm and eat to survive all across the world. Just look at the mess we're in now! Australia's Carp Herpes Plan Dubbed Serious Risk to Global Food Security

I sure don't like the idea either for any reason. However if you don't manage a resource things like that happen.
