The best bait for Tilapia = ? - 03/22/18 07:41 PM

So my friend has 2 very small Tilapia in his fish tank, courtesy of my cast net. They are fun to watch, but can be aggressive. Anyhow, we went fishing recently and had some left over Earthworms. My friend put a whole one in the tank to see what would happen. The 2 Tilapia munched it good, and kept it away from the other fish in the tank as well.

Hmmmm...that got me thinking the earthworm could be the best bait for Tilapia, but if I used it, ALL of the fish in the lake would want to take a swing at the earthworm. For example, on the trip that we had left over earthworms, I used them and caught 1 Bass, 1 big Bluegill and 1 Catfish. So what would be the best bait other than the earthworm for Tilapia?

There was an african fellow fishing with the green moss that grows on the rocks on an episode of rivermonsters. I also heard of canned peas but never tried them

gar1970,

Very intriguing about the moss...
I know carp love canned corn, so if I used canned peas I wonder if the carp would go for that as well.
Maybe just use it with a bobber to keep it away from carp.

I have always used worms and had good success

I would try both bobber and bottom see which works best or even if peas work
