Minnows

Minnows - 06/28/17 02:56 PM

My aquarium hobby has led me to start collecting minnows. I have been catching a bunch of Shiners in most creeks and rivers I go to so if you are tired of fishing shad imitations try fishing a Shiner imitation. The majority are between 2-4in. These fish are sometimes tough to transport and you can see the last fish didn't stay alive long.

Red Shiner

Blacktail Shiner

Still trying to ID this one.

And these 2 I see in Lakes.

Blackstripe Topminnow

Starhead Topminnow.

They aren't much trouble after the set up other than regular up keep.

Which creek & rivers are you finding these fish? I have never seen these around Dallas.

Don- I caught them in White Rock Creek. I'm sure they are in Rowlett also. I'm planning a trip to part of the Brazos soon.

I have also found them in the Colorado River by Austin Airport and in the San Gabriel River.

The bottom 2 pictures were from Daingerfield.

I got a PM from Muzzlebrake for Redhorse in a couple creeks he knows about. I made it to the creeks and caught two Redhorse. Very cool fish. Thanks Muzzlebrake!

I catch tons of sunfish species but the Orangespotted are the most boss despite their small size.

Very cool. I go to a camp every summer on the Pedernales River. I have caught many Red Shiners on it. Very beautiful fish. I caught a shiner in a cast nest on Lewisville that was about 8 inches long.
