If at first you don't succeed... - 04/07/14 03:01 AM

Spring has sprung and the fish are biting but not everywhere!

Dang old Lake Bryan just won't give up much of anything despite a history of good crappie fishing during the spring spawning season. In five trips out to the power plant cooling lake west of Bryan Texas I've only managed a half-dozen fish with considerable effort. Lake Bryan has never been a great fishing lake but seems to be declining as a fishery as the recreational watercraft use of the lake increases. The lakes small size and location make it party central for the B/CS area jet set and a great venue for concerts and events of that nature.

Having no luck at Lake Bryan, Austin and I boogied on over to my friends ranch "Indian Spirit Springs" to fish for bass and crappie in a couple of the lakes on the vast property. Not only was the fishing great but the ranch has burst into color with Texas bluebonnets and wildflowers washed in a sea of green pastures and trees.

Life doesn't get much better than spending time in the great outdoors with family and friends on a beautiful sunny Texas spring day.
