I was out walking this morning and came across this guy. Any ideas?

Looks like a black rat snake to me. Did it's breath smell like a rat?

Best idea is to give him a wide area between you and him.
Unless you are absolutely sure what kind of snake it is.

That is a "Bullet Collector" snake. He loves bullets!

I think its a Rate Snake.

Looks just like the many "RAt" / "chicken" snakes I have dispatched in my chicken coops over the last 7 years. One I shot with a 20 gauge had yolk dripping out of every # 8 pellet hole he had in him. If they aren't full of chicks or eggs they can move rather quickly.
