Last nights (5.10.11) Ft. Worth transformers exploding...

I saw this on the news...brought it over here for everyone to check out.

Was anyone on here close to this? Could you hear the explosions?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking to. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it today. Oncore is probably gonna spend some big bucks to fix all those.

those were not transformers. they were visters....and yes stop 6 is bad

Speaking of visitors... this video has hit the internet pretty good, and there people out there saying that there was "strange objects" in the sky at the 2 min. mark. I checked it out, it's just lens flares from the guys video camera...IMO.

I hate to be the bubble buster but those are large electrical arcs. they are suppied by 12 to 24 thousand volts and 10 to 20 thousand amps of fault current. When you see things like that say a prayer for the lineman that are out in all kinds of weather trying to get the lights back on. I personally spent 32 hours straight trying to get lights back on.

I knew it was arc flash, but what is causing it over & over again in the same spot? Wind?
can those breakers re-set & pop that quickly?

The Breakers in the Substation failed, they are desighned to be triped 3 times and lock out when a fault occurs..which they never locked out and it kept the lines entergized..when the lines get together they whip really bad up and down the lines which kept them doing it and the breaker not locking out to turn it off..eventually the lines burned in the clear wich made it finally stop..

That was an awesome video. Reminds me when hurricane Charley came through my area at night. They sky was constantly a cool blue color thanks to thousands of transformers blowing up.

Amazingly, I didn't lose power....everyone else who wasn't on my grid did though.

The video reminds me of Close Encounters of the 3rd kind or Desert Storm, Baghdad, Iraq circa 1991.

Yeah, I thought of Desert Storm when I first saw it as well.
