This past weekend (11-14-15-20) we took our niece fishing for her ninth b-day. We headed to Choke, launched from the S Shore Unit. We fished for gar in front of the dam. While we waited for a gar to bite we fished for catfish using cut bait.
Our niece caught two blues while fishing in front of dam. After sitting there for a while fighting the wind and no gar runs, we reeled up and move across the lake to get away from wind. We tied off to a tree between two island where it was alot calmer. There she caught a gou. We fished there for another while then decided to move again closer to the boat ramp. There she caught another blue and we had three gar runs just no hook ups. There is so much stinky weed along the bank, kinda smell like Oso Bay.
Gar1970 caught a gou also.
Once the sun went down we reeled up and got off the water. Headed to Micky D's for some grub. After a nice little meal we headed to the 99 bridge to do a little night fishing. There we caught lots of dink crappie and a few keepers, but kept none. Also caught a small lmb.
We stayed out till about 11:30 and called it a night.
After a good nights rest we loaded up and heaeded back to the 99 bridge. Since a cold front had come threw it was even more windy. We fished down river with no luck so went back up and tied to a stump. Fished there for a while and caught a crappie dink and an 11incher. We moved and tied off to the bridge piling and caught a white bass. Both caught on JIGLYF jigs.
Fished till noon then headed out. We dropped off our niece and before we left she tells Gar1970," every birthday i want to go fishing with yall". I am so happy we can share our fishing trips with the next generation. All fish were released to swim another day. We had a great weekend.
