Our last dog Jenny was a solid liver GSP she lived to be 14. We now have a GWP Hektor who is a hunting machine and the best watch dog ever. In this pic he is chilling at my wifes office.

Good looking dog. I thought GWPs had shorter hair than that. The few I have seen weren't that long.

He is by far the hairiest GWP I've ever seen the guy I got him from in MN nicknamed him Fuzz Ball. You have good times ahead with your GSP pup.

Gunner doesn’t always drink beer but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis

Re: Any other GSP owners? - 07/14/18 06:28 PM

That's a good looking pup! Don't worry about his head. It's the color that makes it look big. It'll get freckled and be alright. I've had several. When not hunting they are total clowns and will keep you laughing (or cursing) with their antics. My last one, Rusty, was a liver ticked like yours. He had free range of about 10 acres every day and ran everywhere he went. I had a horse trough full of water under a shade tree. I'd often get home from work in the summertime to find him in the trough with just his nose sticking above the water.

WHen he was a pup I had a wading pool out for him. I looked out one morning and saw just his tail sticking out of the water going around and around. I rescued the frog he was chasing around the pool.

He also loved catching field mice in our hay patch. I'd watch him stalk them, then he'd leap way up in the air and land on them. You can tell a lot by watching their ears. Ears forward, they're thinking of doing something. Very smart dogs, but again, total clowns. Don't take him too seriously and y'all will have fun together.

Are GSP's extremely active and need constant exercise?

Mine is. The only way to wear him out is to take him hunting. The only reason that does it is he locks in I think by the end of the hunt he’s mentally exhausted. Otherwise he can run around our farm for hours and won’t show real signs of being tired.
