I used to think the same way.

My black lab died at 17 years of age, my gun cabinet is full of ribbons, silver platters and trophies that he won in the Field Trials, that said he was my best friend and the best hunting dog I ever owned. When he died I said I will never again own another dog again.

Fast forward 3 years, my wife and girls ordered this dog from Ohio and I told them to take it back.

It's is by far the smartest dog that I have ever raised, all natural abilities and her nose is second to none. I don't think I will ever own another lab.

I put my second best retriever down at Thanksgiving this year at 17. He just couldn't get up anymore. Tore me up to see that. He wasn't near the hunting dog the one he replaced was but he was as friendly and gentle as they come He would follow my daughter around the yard and stand at the bottom of the slide and wait for her to come down. We drove to Illinois to pick up my buddies Drsthkar. Brunhilda or Hildi for short. Before she got used to spa treatments in Southlake she was a heck of a pointer and tracking dog! She would get ducks and geese but give you the evil eye the whole time she did it if it was a water retrieve! You can't wear em out I will say that.
