Brand new to the Crappie scene

I went last year with some friends of mine in Louisiana really targeting crappie for the first time since I was in highschool fishing boat houses on Grapevine. I'll say I wish I didn't take such a long break from it, MAN what a fun time we had. I'm looking to branch out and get away from sandbass and hybrid fishin for a hit and try to catch a few crappie at the lakes o fish around winnsboro and emory. Not looking for specific spots, just where I need to start looking. Like what pattern are they in, where do they go this time of year. I haven't the slightest idea. Only place I can really think of is around boat houses and docks. Any help yall could lend or point me in a direction, I sure would appreciate it.

Fork, Winnsboro, Hawkins, Cypress Springs, Cooper are all great lakes that would be great to start on.
I'd suggest to pick one and learn 1 area at a time on it....right now starting with any timber along creek channels in 15' or less of water.

Gonna hit Tawakoni tomorrow and see what I can drag outta there!!

If you are not an experienced crappie fisherman, my bet would be to find a lake with a bridge across it and fish the bridge pillars. I see below you fish Tawokoni. I've never caught crappie at Tawokoni, as it seems to be mostly a white bass lake but it does have a big bridge across it. Might be worth a try.

Start shallow and work into deeper water this time of the year....when you catch a female note if she is still carrying eggs or not...if so target staging areas in 6 or 8 ft water or shallower...if not, got to 10 ft of water to 15ft..pay attention to a bunch of boats piled up in certain areas for clues on how deep the bite is....start just off creek channels or travel corridors

There are no CRAPPIE in Winnsboro! But if you do get on the lake, head north and east looking for 10 to 12' of water! You should get lucky!

Awesome info Thank yall a TON!! I heard there weren't any crappie in winnsboro from another guy as well I've seen two crappie caught out of Tawakoni...they were both caught by my buddy on a 4 inch sassy shad while we were fishin the line sided variety of fish. Those were a couple of HUGE crappie!!

IT will cause you to enjoy the great outdoors, you will have to record all TV shows you like, your new shopping list will cornmeal and grease as the first items from here on out, you will learn to really master electronics, and you will put 50k miles on your vehicle yearly!

Annnnnnd a big ole goose egg is what we got!!! Hahaha

You can usually find em somewhere on two mile bridge at t-wok. Normally somewhere between 12 and 16 feet, just keep moving till you find the right depth and where they are positioned on the pilings then it should be fairly consistent. You will also catch sandies, catfish, and the occasional hybrid doing this.

Oh, I forgot the most important part, fish in the shade!
