Years past, while duck hunting, I would see bass fisherman out fishing in weather where I had to break ice, thinking they were crazy. Now that I've got into fishing pretty well, I fish in colder weather than I duck hunt in.

I have already done it. We went once when the temp was 17. every 3-4 mins we had to dip the fishin rods in the lake to clear the ice out of the eyes of the rods. on a sad note ... we did not get a bite. Ck

2nd best day I ever had on Monticello was during a snow STORM! We were the only 1's with 4 wheel drive and spent a couple of hours in the morning, going out to the highway and dragging friends in to the ramp thumb

"No Ice - Go! The very BEST DAY I've ever had crappie fishing in Winter, I too had to figure out how to keep the ice from closing up my rod guides. I probably caught 60-70 fish and since that was before crappie limits, I had a long, cold cleaning job once I got home!

I'd say GO!

I fished during snow storms for rainbow trout on a regular basis in years past, both in New Mexico and Texas. I fished with it was so cold I had to break the ice from the guides after every cast.

But I'm older and just a little bit wiser today.

So no, I would not not fish in the snow today. If I could fish I would stay inside my tent on the slip with the heaters going and only go out in the snow when one of the rods hooked a fish. roflmao

Been there done it...and even fell in. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again...minus the falling in the water part. smile You'd be happy to know that I didn't turn loose of the fish stringer. Those fish had a real price to pay. smile

Ketchn: You need to do a trip to Fork and show us all how to catch those crappie stacked up on those bridge columns when it's a nice bright sunny day.

I think this might work but I'll get in trouble:

Haven't fished in snow nor have I had to break ice but I have had to be veeeeeery careful getting in my boat from the ice on the bulkheads at the ramp several times & have to dunk my rod tip to melt the ice.....
Easy limit daaazzzz fer sure & ya don't have to worry bout the crowd either.....
