Since you are in Ennis, what would be wrong with Bardwell? If your plans call for you to go east from CCL, you might try Purtis Creek. I've never had great results but, it is one of the prettiest lakes in Tx in my opinion. Small lake with lots of timber and is a Tx state park with great boat ramp, cleaning station and camping facilities if you so choose.
If you don't like CCL, that's what I'd try.
