Only thing you need now is a water mister system on your umbrellas and a additional 12 volt pump and your set ....

I can't wait to see you on the water. I may tie off to you, jump aboard for some TV, iced tea and break from the sun.

Re: Ready for the Texas Sun - 06/14/11 08:50 PM

Little friendly advice...on windy days like today, you need to make sure the umbrella is connected to that PVC somehow. Maybe a pin all the way through. I had the same set up a couple of years ago, and a gust of wind picked up the umbrella and flew it 20 yards away. By the time I got to it, it was below the surface and I couldn't reach it in time. Let's just say I was NOT a happy camper that day. smile

Thanks Steel Man and pepop! Gonna build some. I wonder if they will hold up at 3mph while side imaging shoreline.

Re: Ready for the Texas Sun - 06/15/11 02:21 AM

I've fished in steady 10-15mph wind moving with TM on high with no trouble. Use 1 1/4" pvc for a fairly snug fit on the seat post as well as the umbrella pole. Steel_Man's idea of the longer pipe above the "H" for the umbrella pole to stick into is good. I'm gonna try to add that to mine. Should give it even more wind resistance.

Re: Ready for the Texas Sun - 06/15/11 05:47 PM

I'm making some for my Lund and learned the seat post is 2 3/8" OD. A 2X2X2 PVC tee is too small ID and you have to ream them out. I have a spindle sander that worked out perfect and the tees now fit over my seat post perfectly. Still looking for umbrellas and guessing I'll have to bush down from the 2" PVC coming out of the 'H'. Maybe 1 1/4 or 1 1/2? Depends on the umbrealla handle, I guess. Was fishing this morning and the wind was howling and I was thinking I'll have to really do something special to keep my boat from flying away if the wind gets any worse.

I am hoping this will get my wife on the water with me. At least she can sit in the shade and read a book.

Get 1 of those pump up sprayers from wally world out of the garden section. They have adjustable nozzle and locking trigger. Had a new 1 in the truck once and half a cooler of cold water. Set the nozzle infront of a 12 volt fan that worked of a cig lighter on a hot day at work, may have looked funny but in 100+ it felt good.
