Granger Tournament Results-Video added

WOW!!! Don't know where to start. I learned alot hosting my first tourney. More to it than I really expected. Can't express enough of the appreciation and cooperation of all that assisted and fished the tourney. The tourney went really well considering the winds were forecasted for 10-15 mph and were steady during the fishing @ 20-25+ mph. Had 47 people register to fish and 19 anglers weighing 7 fish. That was bigger than my expectation. Thanks all that fished. The tourney started a little bumpy since the Fox Park gate attendants decided to sleep in this morning. It happens, you all don't know how much I wanted to sleep in this morning. I got to the lake @ about 0600 yesterday morning and never went home till now. Gonna have to work a little more on the logistics for next year and make it better. All in all I would rate it a big success. Anglers caught some fish and most of all everyone got back safe and sound to fish the next one. Thanks again!!! Dave

Big fish went to Jody Hodon @ 1lb 9 oz.


Junior Angler was Bailey Urban with 5 lbs 4 oz. (Need this young mans address to send him his $25.00 payoff. This young man received some Jigum Jigs and wanted to go back out to try them out. Hope you did good my young friend).

This couple is a real class couple ya'll, Dee seemed as busy as Dave and they really clicked as a couple in spite of the fact that this was a first time tourney... Although the winds were brutal it was a great time..

DB , me and my two other friend was number 37,38 and 39. we had a great time , we only caught two keepers.it we fun just being out their. but we really didn't know that lake too good. and fishing from the bank and fightin that wind was next to impossable for us to win. but the cars and spiderman reel didn't let us down..belive it or not the car reel , won our contest. number 39 caught up 10-12 crappies and white bass.I only caught 3 the whole day.but like i told my wife it was 25 dollars well spent. too bad we didn't stick around for the fish fry. we left fox park to go to taylor park and the charged us another 4 bucks to get in. i found out the reason why we lost so many crappies. 1. we bought our minnows from HAWG EYE ( DECK LAKE BAIT SHOP ) , we told every body our minnows was to gangsta for these crappies.since they came from the eastside of austin.a couple of them look like they had tattos on them. next we was snatchin to hard. i think we was tearin off their top lips . so if any body get a crappie with a top lip missing it was one of ours that we missed. look like the fish fry turn out to be a good one. we will be back next year if you hold another one. next can you put a catfish turney together.. now that will be special..

If you didn't stick around for the door prizes and fish fry, you missed out. Thanks to all that provided the great meal, boy was that some good eating or what?
I also would like to thank Matthew Carroll for his leadership at the tourney and his gracious gifts of his talents(jigs) that were given away after the weigh in.
BTW, Mathew, I will be joining C.A.T. this week. You have taken the time to come down to Granger to help promote this tournament, the least I can do is to help to promote C.A.T,and become a member of that fine orginization!
I do believe I will have to make one of the events this year, I have relatives that live near Cedar Creek, so I have a place to stay.
Congrats to all of the winners as well, I hope everyone had a good time and will tell a friend or two.
Next year should be bigger and better than ever!

DB – THX for putting the tourney together, it sure looks like a bunch of time and work. My wife had me freaked out saying she talked to others and the weigh in was 2pm and I only had a few seconds to get our fish up there. This was right at 2pm, I was scrambling to pick out the biggest ones and get them to the scale to find out you only needed to be in line by 2:15pm, like I thought!! Dohh..

I forgot to mention, I caught the big crappie on a Jigum jig, new Pro Angler pole and on my partners B-pile. THX again – Jody

Glad all had a great time. After a few learning pains I think the tourney next year will be bigger and better. Gonna change a few things up since a few were not real happy with some of the arrangements. Can't please everyone. Sorry for that. Always gonna have a few. Over all it was a good time. I'll send the pic of the big fish to Matthew to post on his website. Thanks again to all. I'm gonna get the video downloaded and post it up. Thanks Kevin and Randy for your help filleting all the fish that were offered up. Pray for better weather next year. I would suggest that you all take Matthew up on his generous offer of 10% off his jigs for those that fished the Granger Tournament.

Really enjoyed this tournament, thanx to Dave and Dee and all else who helped. Count me in to help on the next one!! It was good to meet you guys! Again thanx for everything.

I am not surprised at the Tourney's Success after the effort and dedication put in but Dave and his wife Dee. I truly hate that I could not attend but there is always next year. Good job DD and DD'sbride...very happy it turned out well. Congrats to all the winners and sounds like there were no losers!!

Thinking about putting another tournament together on Granger to be held in September or October if anyone is interested. This will be a team only tournament (7 fish weigh-in per team w/big fish again) for boaters this time around. Let me know what you all think....Dave

The Taylor Jaycees used to do a crappie all-nighter. I fished it two times. It ran from 7 at night until Noon the next day. It was a team tournament and you could turn in was 25 fish. Although I havent seen it for several years, it looked like alot of work and hard to police. The 2 times I fished it however I got 2nd and 7th, not many teams turning in limits.

Sounds like a winner... You have a winning format going. How about August too? (Spring/Summer/Fall)

Don't know about August. Lot of logistics involved in putting one of these together. It doesn't just happen overnight. There was so much to do during this last one that Dee and I didn't get a chance to fish. I'm thinking 2 a year is plenty of work for me. If anyone else were to host one I would definitely fish it though. If I host one in Sep/Oct I am gonna drum up more sponsors to help pay for the event.
