Nice catch.

This is my first year living at CC full time and this summer is the first time I've targeted crappie instead of whites/hybrids. I've had a difficult time getting them to hit jigs so mostly have resorted to minnows. I've ordered some of those thump chubbies after reading a post from Lane. I tried ordering Palmer Pile Driver from Slab Syndicate jigs but they have stopped taking orders for the next couple of months while they stock up for a show. I've been able to catch 9 and 10 the last couple of mornings -- mostly in 14 - 16ft of water tight to the brush piles. I usually only get 2 - 3 fish per brush pile to bite ... so I'm having to move around a lot.

What size jig head or you using ? When I've gotten them to hit a jig it was a 1/32 head with something similar to the thump chubbie. I've heard that late in the summer most people scale down to smaller sizes.

I'd say dinner is served Pop R. Thanks for using our stuff!

Ron, what you're experiencing is very normal for this time of year on CC. At most, we will get 3-5 keepers per pile and move quickly. I don't care if you see 50-60 keepers on a spot (which is common right now) just get the hungry fish and move.

Thanks Ron Douthit. You have some nice size crappie there. Well done. As Laner stated you have to keep on the move and when they stop biting move on. I've been using 1/8 and smaller jig heads with a small BB weight if the wind is light. If the wind gets up I change to a larger weight. I went to Ray Hubbert today and fished under water trees with no results. It got hot and I headed for the east side bridge. If was a tuff day I ended with only 3 keeper crappie, 1 sand bass, 1 3lb cat. Good luck sir!
thumb on your catch.

Nevermind! Just loaded up.

So glad you make these, Lane. They last by FAR longer than anything else.
