Lewisville Fishing Barge

Lewisville Fishing Barge - 07/07/21 06:58 PM

Has anyone had good luck on the Lewisville Fishing Barge? Anyone regularly pull >10 inchers?

I spent about 5hours out there Saturday evening and only hooked 2 small ones. I know barges/marinas can be hit and miss but for the amount of hooks in the water, only a few were getting bit and no real keepers.

Also, and I don't mean to step on any toes here, the barge looked like it could use some maintenance. It's nice that they sell live minnows but it's not so inviting when there are worm and minnow guts on the floors and chairs!

I'm guessing it gets way over fished.

From my experience, this is the wrong time of year to fish that and most barges. They do best in the spring. Right now all you could expect there crappie wise are small fish.

I've had good luck there in the spring. Also fun to go outside and throw into the big schools hitting baits on top.

very true! brush piles on main lakes 18' to 30' is best for me in the summer.

Thank you all! This is good feedback, I'll try again in the spring. Any other places to try for Crappie without a boat?

Yeah its pretty disgusting and depressing. They probably don't care because they still get quite a bit of traffic through there. Its worth it to invest in a small boat or kayak if you can afford it.

Yea, they steady had people coming in, many of which had more than one pole. I'm looking to get a 'yak after summer, since I've heard they go for lower prices.

Don't go there at all!
The guy "white" who works there has a bad attitude. What should I call him by?
I went there about a month ago to check it out and might hang around for couple hours. I walked in there with out a mask and as I approached the desk, he asked me if I just look around or fishing? I said just look around for now in respond. He then told me in order to go in there, I must wear a mask. I looked around and saw 3 people in there but only 1 had a mask hanging below his chin and the other 2 had nothing, same as him. I felt like this guy doesn't want to do business so I left. Should I call him with a bad word or just give him a bad credit by telling people not to go there?
Bad service!

Surprised by some of these posts the barge has been around since the late 50’s I think it is cool as heck with the old vibe. I have only been there once this spring and caught a few crappie but the guy at the front desk was nice as could be and helpful and no one wore masks or talked about them. The place is very nostalgic and great for many disabled or seniors that otherwise could not fish.

Thanks for the feedback all! I imagine experiences depend on who else is on the barge. Aesthetics aside, I've read some older posts about the previous owner clearing out the brush piles in the water that hold fish, so maybe that's why the bite was slow. Also, like JigumMitch mentioned, I'll need to try back in the spring. Thanks all!

You can catch crappie with slip corks and minnows on the first or second pillar on most bridges right now from the bank.

The last time I was at the Lewisville marina it was really in bad shape. Couldn't fish inside . really needs some work .
