Good day on Palestine

Good day on Palestine - 04/24/21 02:10 AM

Brought home a limit, actually culled 10 or so times. And had another 7-8 shorts. Fished from 10am to 4:30. All were caught in 4-10’ of water, brushed out docks, on 1/8 oz. jigs, color didn’t seem to matter. Don’t remember the last time I culled crappie. 22 female, 3 males. They bit better once the rain started about 3 o’clock. Had a blast.

Does the 1/8 oz. sink a little fast for water that shallow? You made a haul, so I guess not, I just always go lighter in shallow water, but maybe that’s why you have a bucket full and I don’t....

First off, I’m not a crappie expert. Your point is well taken. As a rule I’ve always try to use the lightest weight/jig possible when bass fishing. Problem was the wind was blowing and I couldn’t feel a 1/16th. I got hung up a bunch with the1/8th and straighten plenty of hooks before I figured out they wanted it swimming over the brush.

I was using 20lb. Hi-vis braid and 10lb. Trilene xt green for my leader, didn’t seem to bother the fish. I save the 6lb Florocarbon for trout fishing in Branson. At least with the braid I can straighten the hook and not lose 30 jigs.

I’d fished the same docks the day before and caught 8. I think I was just in the right place at the right time.

I’m wide open to any tips or coaching.

That’s the fun about fishing, the cool things that work that you wouldn’t have thought of!
