Staycation Suggestions?

Staycation Suggestions? - 01/30/21 04:54 PM

Hello,

Looking for some suggestions on a staycation type of thing in late March/early April. Ideally would like to find an airbnb type of thing on the water, couple of guided trips for crappie and hybrids/striper. Have a 6 yr old who would love to catch those. Looking for lake suggestions (probably within 2 1/2 hr drive from DFW) and guide suggestions. Thanks!

Cedar Creek would probably be your best bet. As far as guides go, call Lane at Ft. Worth Fishing (Laner here on the forum). welcome

CC, Palestine, fork, twok are all good options.

I thought staycation meant stay at home, ??

all my 2020 vacations were the stay at home type.

Hopefully we will do some travelling in 2021.

get 2nd round of vaccine this Friday.

Check this place out. https://www.boulderslaketyler.com/ I have not been, but it looks cool. There are cabins and RV sites. My friend Tony owns North Texas RV Rentals. https://www.ntxrvrentals.com/ That is a great way to travel safely these days. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a spot in TX state parks. We have camped at Lake Murray and Texoma, (OK side). Those are both nice parks and have access to fishing and guide services. Good luck, stay safe.

Look at my note on the white bass forum about Cedar Creek.

Good luck

Is that crappie house the one that was called Denver and Oscar's back in the 80"s ? When I first moved to East Texas, I fished there
a lot. fishing was slow to awesome , depending on the day. The older lady ( Denver) could catch fish when no one else could.

Is is open to the public , or do you have to been staying there ?

Stay at fork and chase crappie there one day and go catch hybrids or sand bass at Tawakoni one day.

I have not fished Lake Tyler since before '98 smile I remember one morning at that barge , My Dad, ex father in law and my self caught
75 crappie in a pretty short time. Pitching jigs from one end of the well to the other. It was a fish on every pitch. I have never seen
anything like it , before or since. I have also sat there till 2 in the morning with just a few bites.

good luck
