Can this rod be used for crappie ? - 11/18/2004:16 PM
Im going fishing next week and was wondering if this would work for jig and bobber crappy fishing or is it too big it has ten lb big game on it as well

That may be too big. I would think that it might be hard to cast unless you use a weighted float. And if you haven't figured it out, there be piranhas in the TFF pond.

Often goes on sale at Academy for $30
In just about every Walmart fishing section (also at Academy)
For a spinning reel and crappie/other pan fish, I really like 15lb braid to 6ft leader of 6lb test, but to keep it simple 6lb test in anything other than Berkley Vanish and Omniflex would be fine.

It all depends on how you use it. The action on that rod is a bit stiff for crappie but as long as you don't set the hook like you're bass fishing, you'll be OK. My crappie rods are all 8-10' ACC rods in medium action, with 20# Suffix braid...and I've been known to catch a few crappie on them.

We had ONE cheap pole with a Zebco 33 on it when I was a yute. We caught every type of fish there was in east Texas. It ain’t about the fishing pole...

Don't let the ole farts get to you. Your Willie still watches you shave theirs watches them shine their shoes. 1 rod & reel is better than no rod in reel. Have fun on your trip .

sure it can be used. I had a neighbor out at the lake that used his bass gear for crappie all the time. He caught plenty of fish. Since you're using a jig and bobber the rod is far less important since you don't need to feel the bite. like said above, you just need to make sure you have enough weight for casting. either use a weighted bobber or add some split shot.

I new to this but I have a couple of questions for you . Will you be fishing from the bank or out of a boat? Do you prefer a spinning reel or bait casting? Where are you located?
