Aquilla 9-20-2020 - 09/23/20 09:41 PM

Finally got back on the water. Went to Aquilla Sunday morning. Got on the water about 8:30 and left about 3:30 with my limit. Had 3 really nice ones that were a little over 13.5". The smallest was 10.5" I caught more short fish this trip than ever at this lake. Man are they aggressive right now. I started with a 1/8th oz. jig and changed to 1/4 oz.
when the wind came up. I'm not a fan of fishing when it starts to white cap, but there are places on Aquilla to dodge the wind. The biggest fish came after 1:00. Can't remember the water temp. though I did look at it. I'm thinking around 78 or so. All my fish came off of brush piles. Mostly about 12' of water. Some on top some down in it. As I said fish were really aggressive. Started with black and chartreuse, then changed to salt & pepper Crappie Magnet. That color seemed to be the best. I love this time of year!
Y'all go get ya' some.

Alright. Real nice work bro. Was it still stick and move with a few aggressive keepers per stop or are they starting to group better?

I've caught more small fish and fewer fish in the last 4-5 months than the last 5-6 years on Aquilla but still visit regularly. Future looks good with the number of unders caught. Just need some decent rains to fill her back up. Nice trip

I’m looking to go down there this weekend, I’ve never been there before, I’ll be in my kayak, I’m hoping for a good day, not looking to limit out but would like to carry 5-6 nice ones back home with me. Anyone offer any quality advice?

Which boat ramp did you use? I've only used Dairy Hill but for a pontoon it's a bit steep. Makes it hard to load especially with a little side wind. I was wondering if Old School ramp was any better.

It`s not quite as steep as Dairy Hill

If I were fishing a kayak I’d launch at Dairy Hill and fish the bridge and the timber just North of the bridge. If you are really confident in your ability, go almost straight across the lake from the ramp to that line of timber. There are some brush piles mixed in there.
Good Luck

Old School is just about the same but is better protected from the wind. I use Dairy Hill because it’s closer to I35.
