Dad and I got out on Lavon this morning and it was our first time on any body of water since late April. woot

We definitely were brushing the Cobb Webs off so to speak.

Managed 6 keepers today and got a picture of one of Dads catches.

We saw tons of fish with Livescope. There are tons of Fry all over the lake.

ACC 12 Footers
1/4 Ounce Bubbas Baits hand ties in White and Chartreuse and Chartreuse and Chartreuse.
Used some Spike it.

Finding Fish wasn't the problem. Finding Active Keeper Fish that wanted to bite was a problem.

Fished Sunrise to 1pm.

Best bite 15 Feet of water on timber and fish were 10-12 Feet down.
Caught a couple fish at 14 feet down.
Caught plenty of shorts.

Managed a picture with the STACool vest and my new ACC neck gaiter.

Dad and I fished without the vest until 11am. Then we threw it on and fished until 1pm.
We could have fished longer we had plenty of cooling pack changes, but didn't see the point since the keepers were not biting for us.

It was a gorgeous day to be on the water and I was simply happy to be spending time with my Dad regardless of the bite.

On a side note:

We used the American Angler Pro fillet knife for probably 5 years. Loved it.
Switched to the Cordless Rapala Ion after Jerry Hancock turned me onto it. Love it been using it over a year.

Kept hearing about the Bubba Blade. They came out with a cordless Lithium Ion fillet knife combo kit much like the Rapala Lithium Ion combo kit.

We bought the Bubba Blade Lithium Ion Combo Kit to check out the hype. It comes with a red very nice carrying case, 2 Batteries, a charger, and 4 different sets of knife blades.

I cleaned 3 fish today and my Dad cleaned 3 fish today with the Bubba Blade Lithium Ion.

Verdict: AWESOME FILLET KNIFE!!! Cannot wait to clean a double limit with it.

Love our Rapala Lithium Ion and American Angler Pro.

However, Bubba Blade Lithium Ion will be the go to fillet knife going forward.

Wow!!! What an awesome product. thumb

With regards to the Bubbas Blade Lithium Ion fillet knife we used a set of the blades that came with the combo kit. It was either the 7" or 9" eFlex blades that are extremely skinny like the Saltwater Blades for the American Angler Pro. Those American Angler Pro Saltwater Blades are the same we have been using with out Rapala Ion.

I love both the American Angler Pro and Rapala Ion they are fantastic fillet knifes. No complaints on either.

After using the Bubba Blade Lithium Ion yesterday the knife feels so good in your hand. The blades are extremely sharp and Dad and I both agreed the cut with it was fantastic. I am anxious to see how it holds up cleaning a Double or Triple Limit.

Dad and I were both saying to each other yesterday wish we had some more fish to clean. roflmao

You honestly can't go wrong with any of the above knifes. All winners in my opinion.

Thanks for all the kind words so far to everyone else. Much appreciated.

Those chairs look too comfortable. Almost like a lazyboy on the lake. Nice job.

Good report. I have not been out since Tuesday. I almost always go to Lavon because I live so close.

Next time out, I am going to try shallower water. We were in 20-22 FOW Tuesday and did not do any good.

Love the cool vest. How well does the vest work with an inflatable PFD? Is it too bulky/cumbersone/uncomfortable with both of the on at the same time? I always wear a life jacket when I am in a boat.

Great Question Wayne.

We use the Mustang vest and you see my Dad with it on in the picture.

I forgot to get a picture of him wearing the cool vest with his Life Jacket, but it's not an issue.

The very first time you load a cool vest you will think it is heavy. Then you will put it on and get it fit correctly to your body. And you won't even know you are wearing it. It doesn't get in the way at all. We didn't even start wearing our cooling vest until 11am. I had enough packs where we could have though. Dad simply said, I'm ready for my vest. I opened the cooler and loaded it up for him. Helped get it on him and fit correctly. Put his life jacket on and he sat down in his Lazy Boy. Then he said this feels great!

I loaded mine and off we went back to fishing. I was gonna put fresh packs in at 1pm but Dad and I decided to head home because they just were not biting. He said if they were biting he would have stayed.

Without the vest no way we could have stayed on the water.

Wayne I'm in McKinney where are you at? I'll let you use my cooling vest for a day if you want to give it a spin. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how good it feels when wearing it. I'll give you some cooling packs so you can use it all day. Just need an extra cooler to hold them.

Shoot me a PM and we can get you hooked up. I'll be home Saturday through Tuesday so if your going out let me know and you can give it a test drive.

I think once you try it you will be hooked.

Great report as usual. Seems the bite has slowed for many of us!

caught 11 keepers the other day. The jig bite was off and they only wanted minnows on a gold hook.

Re: Lavon 08/20 - 08/22/20 02:48 AM

Hogon, I don't generally go out on week-ends because of jet skis and ski boats. This year has been so strange because sometimes its loaded on week days other times, nobody is out there. Same with week-ends.

I appreciate the offer to use the vest, I might just take you up on that if I know far enough ahead that we are going out. Most times, its just spur of the moment. I'm an old guy that is retired, so I don't have to plan around working anymore. clap

Dang, I just went back and looked at the pics of your Dad's Lounge Chair. Awesome. My recliner in my house doesn't look that good!

Re: Lavon 08/20 - 08/24/20 02:46 PM

HOGON what is the PVC running down the side of your top rail there?
Posted By: HOGON

Re: Lavon 08/20 - 08/24/20 03:03 PM

We put PVC all the way down the side and secured it with Zip Ties. We can fish the bridges and the PVC gets beat up but not the boat. We will bust some zip ties, but we simply replace them after the day of fishing. We have swim noodles on the motor so if we drift back or hit a pylon it is the swim noodle that takes the beating and not the motor.
