Crappies have been on fire. Pink jigs topped with minnows. Almost a single limit.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/07/20 11:16 AM

I would agree. I used a Bonehead Tackle Stump Bug in black neon and the boys wore them out on minnows. The Livescope is a blast with kids. We caught a few early on the bride but timber in 20-28 FOW is where we had the most luck. Stayed on the west side yesterday.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/07/20 08:15 PM

Most were caught in 15-18 fow, on the bottom. One cove on the west side that had clearer water. The kayakers had our best spot locked down....

Cleaned these from Sunday afternoons trip with my daughter yesterday. The bite was good for about an hour or so then they shut down. Water temp was 67-71.

I am a newbie to Crappie fishing. I haven not had much luck. I have been on Lewisville and tried all kinds of stuff. I don't mind driving to Roberts, but i just need some confidence and help. Any tips would be helpful.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/12/20 09:44 PM

Man go launch at pond creek at RR and start fishing a 1/4 oz. pink jig/w a minnow on trees that are in at least 10 feet up to 30 feet deep. Go all the way up to and north of the Lone Oak bridge. You will get bites. Focus on points.

Found a few Tuesday. Would have been tough without livescope. Seemed like I had to be in an area the size of a 5 gallon bucket to get bit

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/14/20 08:29 PM

Nice! Care to share any details K?

We only managed 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 yesterday. They were all big though.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/14/20 09:43 PM

Same pattern as you described....timber and brush from 18-30' on 1/8 oz jig tipped with minnows. Didn't matter if they were alive or dead. Caught 8 on the same one. Cut my last minnow into 3 pieces to scratch out a limit. I tried a jig briefly but no takers.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/15/20 01:05 AM

It's been hit or miss, we caught about 50 on Monday all on white/chartruse jigs, but like you said if it wasn't for Livescope we would have missed em. They were deep but we only had 21 keepers, went back yesterday and caught 6 small ones, but didn't have Livescope. I'm ruined.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/15/20 02:08 AM

I fished with livescope once on my buddy’s boat..... bought it for mine before I went back out. I don’t want to crappie fish without it

Posted in the OT, got the sheet scared out of us. Happened so fast. Thank God we made it back to the launch. Did manage 17 plus this biggun from 3:45 to all hell breaking loose.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/16/20 03:49 AM

How bad will the rain mess them up for Sunday? I unfortunately don’t have livescope so us poor people have to work a little harder for them haha

cheers Question for ya K ,was reading the r. bob reports. So when using minner on a jig. Are you using whole minnow or a part?? Hooking em in the lips? Iam am mostly a jig guy but Whatever it takes . fish Thjanks may get up there on a weekday. Enjoyed the pics. When do we eat LOL.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/16/20 02:43 PM

I’m lazy and don’t have light gear. I have 17# and 15# fluorocarbon line on my crankbait rods. I tie 1/4 ounce or 3/16 jigs to get down faster. I hook the minnows behind their eyes and go down through the back of the head and turn the hook up past the mouth. Learned that from Cody Tucker (who I highly recommend) I imagine I could do better with lighter setup, but I can wrestle them out of the timber pretty easily.

Shouldn’t hurt them. Hoping the lake floods again for the summer. I know just where they should be.

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/17/20 04:58 PM

I use the whole Minnow but will fish pieces if I have to. I run the hook through their mouth then out the back bout 1/3 the way down. Don’t care if I kill em

Re: Ray Roberts - 05/17/20 08:11 PM

Water was stained pretty bad where it has been clear. Bite was slow, only caught a few small ones and some catfish.
