Can only fish after work, How is Crappie bite in the afternoon and evening? - 12/04/19 08:06 PM

I work on Ft Hood Usually get home around 4, wondering of it is worth my time to walk the banks from 4 PM to dark. I can't seem to consistently catch a Crappie to save my life. I read they are going into the creeks. Plenty of those around me, thought I'd give it a try for an hour or two From 4-dark. Any input or advise would be appreciated. Not asking for anyone's spot or honey hole. Just General advise to increase my success, Depth or lure choices. Thanks

There are active fish somewhere at all times during the day. Find the active fish...keep moving until you find them.

I wonder if fishing up and down the dam at Joe Pool will be productive for crappie?

I don't have much info on your lake and fished it only a couple times. I'm just a little north of you and on my home lake TWPD installed some condos near the dam 12 - 20'
daytime they are closer to the 12 and the 20 at night. We have a bridge that holds a few and a couple creeks, they are in the creeks but not alot yet, still a little early.
We also have some locals that dump christmas trees every year at night of course. I seem to find at least one new pile every year.
That's all I got --- 12 - 20, rip rap near the dam, and a bridge. Good luck
Maybe some of the local pros can help you fine tune your approach.

Well bought a Ft Hood Fishing pass yesterday, went and started fishing the Cow House near east range rd, Saw 2 other fishermen fishing under both sides of bridge, I walked up and down the bank where I could, tried Numerous colors, and sizes with crappie bites. Tried near bank and slip cork all around for about 30 yards. The Soldier under the North side of the Bridge had a few bites but did not land any, neither me or the guy under the south part of the bridge had any bites in 2.5 hrs no one landed a fish. On the Way home a deer slammed into my drivers side messing up both doors, now my window wont go up. In all it was a bust. I will try again after my truck gets fixed. I will try other spots also. Thanks

Crappie dock at BLORA used to be dynamite this time of year in the late afternoon until around midnight. I called out there to check to make sure it was open like it used to be apparently they are doing work to it right now. Once it opens back up it should be good; hope its before February. Another option would be the creeks coming in on the north side of the lake. I've never done much good in Cowhouse except on a few catfish. With the Ft Hood pass there used to be some little ponds on post that held good crappie if you have access to a canoe or kayak; not sure on the rules anymore as I haven't picked up my post permit since moving back after a 15 year absence but could point you in their direction if interested just shoot me a pm.
