The water ain't the only thing hot....

the fishing is too. Gave Martin Creek a try this frosty morning and it proved good. The first stop didn't produce....I could see them but they didn't want to play. Stayed there too long and decided to try spot number 2.....the graph lit up. My first drop and BAM....these fish were hungry! Sat in that one spot and quickly caught a limit. Was using a Bonehead Stump Bug in white lightning on a 1/8 chartreuse jig head. Fish were 10 to 12ft down in 15ft water. The lake is still a couple feet down even with all the rain we've had lately.

Great looking fish! I was out Friday morning on Martin Creek but could not find any. It was my first time crappie fishing on Martin Creek. I looked for brush or structure in 10-20 ft but could not find any most all the structure was 20-30 ft. I fished timber and the bridge but caught only small bass.

Martin Creek can be difficult at times. To me it doesn't fish like a cold water lake does. Try the bridge closest to the dam and of course the RR bridge. Make a run to the hot water side and try the Dirgin bridge. There are quite a few laydowns in Martin but finding one holding fish can take a lot of looking. Years ago I had given up on finding crappie on Martin and one day while bass fishing with a drop shot I kept getting bites but missing on the hook set. I took my crappie rod out of the box and dropped a jig down there...the crappie had found me. Keep looking....you'll find them.
