Hmmm? - 06/21/19 12:53 AM

ICAST 2019 sure is looking to be a big show just as it is every year. With the Big Hitters coming out swinging to compete across the board in the trolling motor game. Lowrance, and Garmin both will be introducing there new trolling motors. I haven't heard much from Lowrance and only a small taste of what Garmin will be bringing and it looks to be very nice. MotorGuide is to reinvent the wheel on the trolling motor world as well.
Last year Best Marine Electronics: Garmin Panoptix LiveScope won Best of Show. Garmin rocked the Marine Electronics world and has the competitors chasing technology to keep up. Lowrance has introduced LiveSight and many are waiting to see what Humminbird may bring to the table in the world of "real-time fishing"
Stay tuned to shut-up-and-fish as we will be bringing you updates to you as we travel the floor at ICAST 2019

I have been anguishing over it. I NEED an Ultrex and LiveScope but I have been waiting until ICast to make sure I don’t buy something bing and instantly regret it. I am ready to buy now but know better. My luck is if I wait nothing better will come out but if I buy it dang sure will!

From the post that I've seen from Humminbird I can't get that they are goin with the live concept but they are pushing it will be clearer.....
Not sure if that's clearer live or clearer than their recently improved SI,DI and 2D.....
I'm sure it's gonna make us dig deep to own it either way.....LOL

For anyone to compete with Garmin's Livescope they will need to get into "real-time fishing". SI and DI are for searching for fish and or structure. "real-time fishing" is for catching them. Lowrance attempted but just not the same. Humminbird has always been geared heavy for the Bass guys. If all they do is make 360 imaging with Mega Imaging they will not be competing in "real-time fishing" Since the release of Livescope we all want to see our bait, bait presentation, and the way the fish are reacting. "with fair pricing points"
It will be interesting as we go forward...

I've had the privilege of fishn under LS several times now and it's technology different than any other for fishn for sure..... Garmin made a move that for sure has the other companies seeing a decline in revenue.....
Would be a for sure game changer if Garmin made adaptors that would allow their LS transducer to work with other brand head units...
Not sure if that would be legal but would definitely get my attention.....
I'm ready to make some moves upgrading my electronics but have put them on hold until these releases are made....

Have you seen or heard anything about the features of the Garmin TM?

Re: Hmmm? - 06/23/19 06:08 PM

I’m with you S.K. Would be great if I could run the Garmin LS with my Helix 9. I guess I will wait to see what HB comes out with at ICAST.

Re: Hmmm? - 06/23/19 06:23 PM

Trust me. There will never be a conversion kit to share equipment as Lowrance and MotorGuide did for years with Livescope to any other brand. Heck, they all have different hole patterns for the gimbal mount to the RamMounts. I have asked for all to get together on the same hole pattern and was told "they aren't getting our hole pattern"...

Our Sales Rep and our Educator have only shared small tid-bits about the motor. 1 I will share is that I can point the remote towards my next waypoint and click it and the motor will go to the nearest point and lockdown. It will hold "spot on".

I can't wait to play with one.

We shall see..... Electronics will break a person if they try'n keep up with the latest and greatest so I'll make sure I go with what will make me happy for years to come and call it.....
Thanks for the info David.....

Re: Hmmm? - 06/23/19 11:44 PM

I am so anxious to hear more!

My hope is that the Garmin TM interfaces with Livescope and that they come out with a pole that can be aimed independently of the trolling motor yet it deploys with the trolling motor. I need a new TM and want LiveScope badly.

Not seeing a pole on the trolling motor however we have the PoleDucer to mount the Livescope transducer to and it has been working very well and has been a hot seller here @ shut-up-and-fish

David, enlighten me. I've been doing this for almost two years with Lowrance and Xi5. If you mean you point the remote in the general area and it goes there, I understand that but I have waypoints near each other, select which one, use the touchscreen, and the TM goes there and Anchors. If I am interpreting your comment correctly, I just don't see that as a biggie. JMO.

I have not had the pleasure to use one yet so I do not have an answer for you. I was advised only what I stated. I have no other details at this time.

I saw the price tag on the Garmin trolling motor is $3100

Checked out the video of the HB Booth on your FB Page. I just want to know ONE thing from ICAST. . . Is HB coming out with something to compete with LiveScope?

Thanks for the great reports! ! !

There is nothing even close to a local equivalent to ICast.

So far all we are seeing from Humminbird is MEGA 360 Imaging. Garmin looks to stay in front with real-time Sonar. Unless someone has something up there sleeve...

I was really surprised that Motorguide chose not to go with brushless motor technology, but glad to see the return of the Tour edition, and now with spotlock available in the Pro Tour series.

I asked them this question today on your behalf and the answer we receive was pricing points. They could have gone brushless however it would have raised the retail price $1000 bucks. Hence the hi price for the Garmin Force and Lowrance Gost.

Re: Hmmm? - 07/11/19 01:44 PM

All these devices have different purposes, so they do not compete with each other, they play in a different space.

Below I show what I have, “manufacture - device - device purpose, how I use it”.. red font competitive space

1) Minn Kota - TM - get to spot, stay on spot
2) Garmin - LS - real time, for fishing
3) Lowrance - Maps - I use this unit for maps only, my way points. I can use this device at console and move upfront next to LS.
4) Hummingbird- SS, DS, 2D - I use to find structure.

None of these devices talk with each other. The first manufacturer to tie all this together wins. It would be nice if my hummingbird maps could share waypoints with my Lowrance, but not a huge need. But what I wish more than anything is my Lowrance “Maps” would talk (share waypoints) with my TM. This is why Lowrance and Garmin are rolling out their own TM.

If Minn Kota is smart, they would roll out their own graphical maps device. The current ipilot you can save waypoints, so they see the market need here, but I need big graphical maps screen, where I can name way points, export and import waypoints from my PC (google earth). This would be easy for Minn Kota to do, if they don’t do this, they will lose market share big time to Lowrance and Garmin in the TM space.

Waypoints are not part of any mapping, it is GPS data. Mapping is just a background on the Chart Plotter display. You get waypoints, routes, and tracks with no background mapping.

If you had the Minnkota with iPilot LINK, it would "talk" to your Humminbird unit if connected via Ethernet. It would steer your boat following contour lines of Lakemaster HD mapping or Auto Chart maps.
It would also add more memory for Spotlocks (waypoints) and would steer your motor to chosen waypoint or Spotlock waypoint.

Minn Kota - TM - get to spot, stay on spot

Unless you get the model I got in 2014. I refer to spot lock as wander around and bash into stuff. I just tie up somewhere.

I understand that. Semantics. When I say maps, I’m not talking “background”, I could really careless about the background, a black and white waypoint plotter display would work for me, as long as I could zoom in and out, maybe a simple outline of the lake would be nice. Minn Kota should provide that with their trolling motor.

Interesting what you say about ipolit link, wish I would have known that before I just bought my new TM, I might have got that. I did talk to Minn Kota, they told me their TM cannot navigate to hummingbird waypoints, I guess they were just talking about ipilo.

Ha ha, yep. You need upgrade to 2nd gen ipilot my friend. I had the 2014 Tarrova, and just got a new Tarrova, exact same model, but with the 2nd gen ipilot (has white puck heading sensor blue tooth connected to the TM). Huge difference.

Not only will it navigate to waypoints you can find fish or structure on you si/di/2d screen and put the cursor on the target and have the trolling motor take you straight it. I use this feature with si a lot
