April 27 Murvall spring G2G, & 2nd annual potlicker classic. - 02/07/19 02:47 PM

Ive had some folks asking if we can do a get together again this spring..so i wanted to make a post to see if there is any interest....Do to bad weather we had to change the date last year and a lot of folks who wanted to, couldnt make it
Lets toss some dates around and see what we come up with, however I'd like to suggest late April as a good time to be on murvall, the lake has settled down from the spawn and the fish will be back on good structure/ cover, . whether you shoot docks, chase brush piles, or fish timber it will all be producing ...there are very nice amenities and accommodations at murvaul Marina such as Rv and cabin rentals... plenty of room, nice free boat ramps....this could be a lot of fun...things do book up fast so we need to get on the ball.

What is a potlicker?... The second boat on the water is just the first potlicker banana

2nd annual Potlicker classic ( fun tournament)..last year we had a great time with this tournament and I hear the defending champions(T-Box & Hickory Nut) are chomping at the bits to bring our money back home. flehan...in all seriousness ,They dont stand a chance this time! de bolt

Hopefully I can make this one. Murvaul has been tough lately maybe it will settle down by then. The lake has changed some since last year for the most part it's just been tough to get a constant bite going.

Other than Easter weekend I’m in.

Re: Murvall spring G2G, & 2nd annual potlicker classic. - 02/07/19 05:01 PM

I just called murvaul Marina and checked for cabin and RV availabilities... They have plenty of cabins and RV sites available for the weekend of the 27th and 28th.... They are nearly full the first and second weekend of May., Anything after that you get into graduation ceremonies and that's what stopped a lot of people from coming last year.

So let's set it for April 27th and see what we get....if you want to stay the night in an rv or a cabin speak up pretty fast ....for more details you can google Murval Marina.

1st,
Let me give you the definition of “Potlicker”
Someone that follows you around marking the spots you are fishing
2nd,
Let me give the definition of “Skilled Angler”
Someone that scans the lake, marks structures that he found on his own, then determines which types of structure is holding the better quality fish, the lures and presentation required to catch them

Seems like most people just end up mashing them into the carpet on the boat, except you don’t have carpet on your boat, so I guess feeding them to the minnows is your best option!

If you're gonna buy minners at Fuglers you better go up to a little heavier fishing line....they're huge! The last crappie I caught on one, the minner had it in a headlock. hooked

I’m definitely not ashamed!!! I’ve seen many a cork go under on my line with a shiner attached to a gold hook on the other end....... in fact there’s nothing quite like watching a cork go down.

Re: Murvall spring G2G, & 2nd annual potlicker classic. - 02/21/19 03:24 AM

Menners? slinger slinger Seriously, they do make good chum, if you dice them up and toss them overboard!

Yea Ken, I’m with you, I use whatever works too...fortunately, it always seems like those baits sold by Tbox (Belinda), Laner, or Abbott, are more than enough to be considered “whatever works”. Of course, every now and then I will grab one of Joshes baits, or some of my Jiggum Jigs stash, but normally, that is enough to satisfy those sometime finicky crappie. And if you ever spy me reaching for the Slab slobber or heaven help me, Crappie nibbles, then you know I have basically run out of ideas, and am just about to head home.

Well, I’ll be danged, I couldn’t even find a menner bucket, either in the garage or in the boats, in operable condition, so I guess it’s been awhile, since I used any menners. Oh yea, now I remember, I used a couple one time when Troy and I were fishing. However, I do understand most of the tourney guys use menners (this I’s my shout out to UJC, and Chris H2O) although I don’t think TBox would ever resort to minnow use...

Seriously though, the stuff I fish is not conducive to fishing minnows, so I don’t even bother to mess with them.

You have been miss-informed. He is going to have one of his baits on the line but I have seen it tipped with one.
He may be hardheaded but he ain't stupid. When cold hard cash and bragging rights are on the line, it's whatever it takes.
By the way, I will plan on some more pineapple orange sherbet at the get together.

Whatever, I’m game...Fulgers or Roachie’s burger...actually after looking at Roachie, I am game for one of his burgers! grill

I probably have enough hamburger meat in the freezer (fresh grass raised 95% beef) available to feed the masses. Just let me know...either way I’m game.

Troy you may have already mentioned it but do you know if there are still cabins available? I’m planning on fishing Friday-Sunday so I’d like to make arrangements for a bed if there are still some available. I’m planning on bringing fish cooking supplies so we need to get together and make sure we get all the bases covered.

So, Abbott, I have some fond memories of that dock... Caught CrappieXpress turning his boat around, and managed to catch several fish from under it...skipped some of those rubber legs to the sweet spot (even though they do not skip more than a foot or two) before he could get that boat positioned to his liking (or basically just getting me out of decent shooting position)...if I could ever get those rubber legged wonders to the fish they would attack them!
