Stripers were slower so we switched gears.
14’ of water on minnows. It was just steady not fast and furious. [Linked Image]

Wow! Randy, I may need to have you teach me some tricks on PK crappie. That is a great catch of crappie for PK.

Were they in the sticks, docks, drop-offs? Use to nail them at South D&D around the old pier. Nice mess of crappie from the west.

The best thing you can do to improve your crappie fishing is fish from Costello to River.
The best crappie hole on PK is in Cedar Creek. It has no less than six no fishing signs on it...lol
i Am not allowed to tell were last weeks fish came from but....
These fish came from Cedar last year. The fish are there but you have to put some time in to find them. [Linked Image]
We caught these in March last year.

Another mess from Cedar Creek area.
Only fished for them 3-4 times last year. I had my knee replaced right about the time they got going good.

Ouch. Cedar creek can be a long haul for me in my 60 HP boat. Launching from sandy beach it takes a while to get back in there. I may need to just buy a battery portable chain saw and start making some brush piles.

Re: PK Report - 02/07/19 08:02 PM

I reckon I am going to start fishing PK much more this year. Great report. I have been to Graham a couple of time so far this year. Lake is very muddy. No bites, either with jigs or minnows (as of Monday), also Lake is still very full. So have become discouraged and will start going to PK or other lakes within one hour of Mineral Wells. I went up Cedar Creek a few months ago, more to run the boat than to do any fishing, however, there are some nice looking spots up there and with the TPWL condo building and the GPS co-ordinates on those spots should be able to get a few this year.

We need to go fishing again Tom. I have side scan on my boat. We should be able to find the fish attractors the TPWD put up there. Cedar Creek is a real haul from Sandy Beach. Randy has a big advantage with that rocket powered (300 HP) boat. If we can find the crappie they normally will bite. Finding them in that massive lake is the issue.

PK, maybe I just enjoying getting out, but it does not seem that far from North D&D where I normally put in when going to Cedar Creek area. Only problem for me is the wind, if over 15 mph, I don't like going across the lake. The same from Scenic Point across to Neely slough. I have the older Humminbird 999 with side scan. I have all the way points that TPWL put on their web site loaded into the unit for the Cedar Creek area. Still using old boats, but I do have the 115 hp 1977, goes nicely at 38 mph. 1978 Ranger 15', nice for 2 people. If I remember correctly, I think I can get to the end of Cedar Creek within 25 mins, which is much quicker than driving around to the state park area and putting in there, however, I do have a yearly state park pass. All in all would love to go either with you or you with me next time it warms up again and the wind ain't blowing to hard.

"but it does not seem that far from North D&D where I normally put in when going to Cedar Creek area." Put in at Sandy Beach, it's closer from that ramp. Did you locate the fish in that area yet. Me and my brother caught a few at State Park from the pier.

Re: PK Report - 06/07/19 12:45 PM

Fished last week in Cedar Creek area on PK, caught 7 nice ones. I put in at Sandy Beach but that ramp is so shallow you have to back pretty far out into the water. North D&D much easier to put in. I was wrong about 25 mins to Cedar Creek from North D&D only takes about 6 mins to get to the entrance to Cedar Creek. The lake is really muddy and now 3 gates are open. So I am in no hurry to go back till things settle down weather wise. I will go back soon though as I am excited that I am at last catching good crappie in PK. One person told me that the crappie where biting under their dock from midnight till morning, he had maxed out 2 nights in a row.

Re: PK Report - 06/08/19 12:30 AM

That's real promising, guess I'll have to try a few spots. Went to Graham and caught 1/2 dozen yesterday at the barge. One 13", one 10" and the rest were throw backs not including the one that broke off. Water super stained and flowing in. Noted on Hwy 16 the creeks flowing into the upper lake at PK were bringing in quite a bit of water. Wish I could fish the mouth of Rock Creek after it settles down.

Sumfish you are right about Rock Creek. I love to fish up that area too. But this year has not been good due to it being real muddy.
