Graduation trip and another Grandnephew trip.

Graduation trip and another Grandnephew trip. - 07/06/18 02:18 AM

Sunday 7-1 I was able to entertain my longtime friend Gary and one of his twin boys Cory on a graduation trip. Cory will be headed to Stillwater this fall to start his college experience. Gary has been wanting to get the two boys on some crappie before they both head off to school. I told him that due to my boat being on the small side that it would be better to split the trips up and take the boys individually. Cory has done a little saltwater fishing but has never really crappie fished. It took him a little while to tone down his hooksets. But, once he did he finally started putting some fish in the box. The morning bite was slow once again and we only had 8 fish in the box at 11am. It was another day of picking up one or two at each spot so we spent a lot of time hitting piles and then coming back to them again. Gary's other son Blake is on deck and we hope to get him down in a couple weeks to sling some slabs.

A couple weeks ago I took my oldest brothers' grandson Ayden and he had a blast. Well, one of my other grandnephews found out and his momma called me to let me know that he wanted to go since the only fishing he has done has been on a pond at one of his grandfathers ranches. I was a little worried about the forecast for rain on the 4th and when I checked it Tuesday afternoon it looked to be clear until after lunch. I sent her a message to see if he wanted to go and she sent me a message that he was 100% in. I picked him up at 6:30 and we headed to the lake after getting a donut, taco and ice. We got to the first spot and after a few instructions Brysen was slinging our first fish in the boat. The bite was steady but not fast and furious. After getting a few fish in the cooler Brysen ends up boating the largest fish (15") of the day and ended the day with 12 of our 29 fish. We had 8 fish over 13" with 4 of those going 14" or better. We were off the water at 1:00 as he had to get ready to go pop fireworks with his dad. It's always a great day when you can introduce the younger generation to the sport of fishing especially when they are the "victims" of a divorce. Fish were caught on MCMTackle Jigs (Abbott) and on a jig that Potlicker (Yesenia) on here sent me made out of Axis hair.
