My ole Fishing Bud wtex... - 06/30/18 03:07 AM

... almost has my new jig pole ready. Built on a 7 ft St Croix SCV Extreme blank with split grip, split reel seat, and Fuji K series guides. A little more thread work to finish and some epoxy and she will be ready to go...

Split grip

Thread work on the guides

And some marbling work.

Between the grips.

And butt wrap

Thanks for looking...

Hey guys and gal thank you for the comments and I know Robert appreciates it to.

Bobby, this is my third. I used to buy only All Star until they went off shore, now its St Croix for me too.

Roger save your coins, they are worth it.

Anthony, here is a link to wtex's web sight, he will be glad to answer any questions you might have. The Rod builders guild usually meets in the metroplex in the winter. Be a good place to meet some of the best, and they don't mind sharing their knowledge...

Sure will, he called last night and was attaching the hook keeper and spinning the final thread. Two more coats of epoxy and dry. Now if our wives will just let us go fishing... bang

Two more coats of epoxy and dry then I can get my feelers on it. Can't wait to see her in the sun. All that paint has matching glitter in it, so she shimmers in the sun....

Wish I could get some pictures that would show the sparkle in it. There are seven different colors in the marbling and each color has matching glitter. It really pops but doesn't show up very good in the pictures. Anyway she is home and gonna get some crappie slim on it in the AM. Thanks for looking and for the replies...

Had the pleasure to meet wtex, Robert Briscoe a few yrs ago when he came east to fish with Crazy Angler, Robert Howell.
Fine gentleman indeed. Having built a few rods for myself, I can unequivocally say Robert's work is top shelf and the blanks he uses are the finest I've had in my hands. Really like the Batson Rainshadow. Gona cost a few more dollars than one of those Academy specials, but there is a TREMENDOUS difference in what you get.

Very nice although I don't think you're gonna catch a crappie in those clear waters....LOL
Goood looking rod....
What reel are ya gonna put on it?

Re: My ole Fishing Bud wtex... - 07/29/18 09:22 PM

SK, pot lickers are real bad in those waters, but it is a great test tank... roflmao

I have an ABU Revo Premier size 10 on the way, should be here next week. Today I pulled the reel of my other jig rod just to try it out. That un is an ABU Soron STX size 10. As good a rod as my old Al Star is, this un is even more sensitive. Been saving my change for a long time to buy it. Now I just have to come up with a name...
