Finally, a day with my daughter - 05/20/18 04:42 AM
Due to her busy school schedule at TXST and work Kait hasn't been able to make it home as much as I'd like. She got off early on Thursday and was off Friday but had to be back at 11 this morning. I took the day off on Friday so we could spend a little time on the lake. She was anxious to try out her new 8' Waterloo that I had made for her. We hit the water about 8am and the wind was just right. Since she hadn't been in a while I picked up 2 dozen minners, just in case. It was a little slow but steady in the early going. We finally hit a spot that produced a fair amount of fish. After they turned off we make a little run to another spot that had been producing. We picked up a couple decent fish but not the numbers that I had been catching there. As the wind began to pick up she was having a little trouble detecting the bite on the 1/8oz jigs so at our next stop I tied on a 1/4oz head and tipped it with a minner. This was the ticket for her and pile produced some really good fish. At 12:30 I had pulled 24 beads and she had pulled 19. I said we have 30 minutes to finish getting two limits. I told her that it was time to pull the rabbit out of the hat. I made a 5 minute run where I had two piles that were about 80 yards apart and I was sure the fish would be on one of them. We pulled up to the first one in 21FOW and after about five minutes with not so much as a bump I said "they're not here sweetie". Kicked the trolling motor on high and got to the other pile in 17FOW. First drop I caught a fish on my jig and told her that I was done. By the time I had stuck my rod in the rod holder Kaitlynn was slinging her 20th fish in the boat. She slung her 25th fish in the boat at 1:15 and we were headed in with a two person limit. This was a special trip as it was the first time that I was able to put a two person limit in my own boat and I was able to do it with my favorite fishing partner. We have our second trip scheduled with Mark Standridge next Saturday and she is as excited as I am. All of my fish came on Stump Thumper light blue splash, white splash and money bags. Kait's fish came on Bonehead purple shad stump bug and minners. Fish were caught in 14-21FOW suspended at 12-14ft. Lake is around 2ft low and the water level has dropped another 6" over the last two weeks (we need some rain in a bad way). Water temp was 82-84deg.
