Still not in full spawning mode

Still not in full spawning mode - 04/23/18 05:54 PM

contrary to what I want them to do the fish in the local cypress watering hole are still not wanting to commit to move in to spawn shallow. the only fish I have found that aren't still in the main river channels are in 5-7 ft of water. usually by now I'm catching fish in 2-3 ft fully commited to the spring spawn. not complaining as that just makes the next 3-4 weeks even better. fished Saturday and kept 19 and 16 on Sunday. I did get to meet Mr. Crapicat himself..........no guys he's not a figment of our imagination!! also met Porkchop80 and found out he's a local on the lake. Great to meet both of you guys....... and I know pictures or it didn't happen.

Very late spawn this year compared to last year. Fish will be spawning well into June.

Think where I wish on cc it's done. I was catching.them wading decent not a limit but normally 15 orso went today and caught one. I know it's not fished out I'm the only one wading. Fishing in the creek all crappie have been in deeper water amd spawned out. Main lake may be different but 175 bridges is done with I believe

With all this cool weather, it's been pretty strange on the main lake this year. The first of March, I caught the usual upper lake spawning fish, but they never showed up for that next full moon the first of April. But, as I posted on Good Friday, we caught some nice lower lake jig and bobber fish then. Now, my upper lake jig and bobber bite is back. I've never seen fish that shallow, that far up the lake, this late in April. I'm hoping this 80 degree afternoon doesn't warm the lake too much. These fish are just now moving up to spawn; they're not done at all.

After a March that was a bit tougher than usual for me, April has been great. Yesterday was the fifth straight trip in a row that I've caught a limit.

I fished CC on Thursday and had a limit by 12:30. 95% of those fish were post spawn and not one of them was dark. From what I can tell, the majority of the spawn has came and went on CC.

Just because the fish aren't shallow doesn't mean they aren't spawning. Most of the fish I've been catching are jet black and full of eggs on brush in 8-12ft. They just aren't spawning where we all want them to be spawning this year.

It's been a strange spawn this year. I had to Wade to get to them this year and the normal places I didn't catch any.

I kept 15 larger crappie yesterday. All were post spawn.

Did catch some in 9' of water, but most came 12' deep in 16' creeks in the main lake.

Guess everyone's experience is a little difference this year.
