Spice Rack in old town Burleson has the best burger I have had in a long time!
Called Build A Burger and you choose your cheese, balsamic onions, grilled jalapenos, patty is half pound Angus cooked to order and is juicy every time.
Best kept secret in Burleson for their food. banana

I still stand by Burgerand Fries in Sulphur Springs. A cheese burger, fries (home cut), drink for $7 with tax. I am just happy they don't have a place in McKinney because it would not be good for my long-term health to be so convenient.

Re: Best Burger - 09/11/16 06:34 AM

Thought I would revive the burger thread by throwing in ou new favorite, Jucy's Hambugers in Tyler ( 2 locations) has the best old fashioned burger we have found in years. Plenty of burger sizes and different cheeses to choose from Their fried sides like hand cut French fries and hand battered onion rings are just like your Mamma made growing up. None of that frozen, mushy stuff a lot of people throw in the grease. If you are on the eastern side of state look them up. I believe they also have a Longview and Marshall place in addition to the 2 in tyler. FaceBook or google them to get full menu, directions and their story

SteerBurger, on Tx Hwy 35 S between Rockport and Aransas Pass was just written up in Texas Monthly mag as one of the top 50 burger joints in Texas. I agree, and they're about two minutes from my home! Just a trailer, with a griddle and a deep fryer. No dining room, just picnic tables. Long line every day at lunchtime. Not just burgers, but other sandwiches and different daily specials. Cheaper than McDonald's and twenty times as good.
Please don't tell anyone else.

Gholson Country Store. Gholson, Texas. Best $%#@! burgers and fries I've ever had, anywhere. Their fried shrimp (only availableon Fridays) is also really good. If you want a beer, you can walk over to the country store side, no wall or anything, and buy one from their cooler and bring it to your table. If you order a beer they'll get one for you but it costs 25 cents more. Shipping and handling, I guess. They do have tea and fountain drinks in the burger joint side.

Fuddrucker's (sp?) is my favorite for a non-fast food chain restaurant. Favorite fast food burger is Smash Burger, next in line is Whataburger, then Freddy's. Sorry, just call 'em as I see 'em.

edited to add: Oh, man! I can't believe I forgot Healthcamp and Cupp's! Both in Waco. Healthcamp is anything but healthy, with great burgers and shakes, and Cupp's has been there since '53 for a reason.

Went to Bakers last night

note if you go at night bring a gun. I did not have mine and wished I did when a crack head crossed the street and came directly to my vehicle and asked for money. She was shaking badly from drugs or lack of, and eyeballing at my wife and daughter. I usually say no but gave her a couple quarters to get rid of her. Looking back I would have handled it differently. Great burger, but at night the neighborhood is shady.

Stingray's in Port Aransas
I usually get my primo burger fix at SteerBurger, just South of Rockport on Tx 35, voted by Texas Monthly Mag as one of the top 50 burger joints in Texas(trailer, no dining room, just great burgers).
Last Saturday, being Cinco de Mayo, plus, the Kentucky Derby, we decided to brave the Port Aransas ferry logjam, and get a Super Margarita at Stingray's in PA. Having the munchies, we decided to eat there, under the two Stingrays(real Corvettes, over the bar). Two of us got their Stingray Burgers. Outstanding! I normally avoid "touristy" places, and PA on weekends, but we'll be going back there. Afterwards, down to Bernie's Beach Bar to watch the Mud Derby. Escaped before the ferry line got stupid long. Good a place as any for my 1st post. I spend 2 years after college up near Wichita Falls. Their were more local burger joints up there than any place i've been. Gene's Tasty Burger, Ronnie's, Stanley's, Pat's, Glass Kitchen... Not sure if they are all still there, but all were good. My personal fav was Ronnie's.

Storms in Hamilton
Langford grocery in Houston
Herds in Jacksboro
Hole in the wall (can't remember the town, but west of DFW)

The all-time best was Lita's in cowtown. Fried in a cast iron skillet and you could write your name in the grease on the walls. She had been there for years. Unfortunately, she past.

Langford Grocery in Houston is very good. Hubcap Grill in downtown Houston is also very good. I worked downtown for many years so we just walked. It's not worth driving in downtown Houston for any food, even if it was free.

I went to the Langford grill for the first time a couple of days ago. It's a decent thick patty burger but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a bit juicier or the meat more flavored. Just had the standard cheeseburger. Good enough to go back once in a while but their are better burgers in Houston.

Leta's Place was one of a kind, for sure. I had many burgers in that old dive back in the day. She made some great old school burgers, but lord don't ask for fries!

Some of her old friends and customers set up a memorial plaque for her where the old diner used to be.

Serve with some deep fried tator tots ! Can’t beat it !

I think his wife is a manager there. There was a HUGE turnout, and I'm sure lotsa bucks were raised. Don't know the future of the business, but if it closes, Mark & SteerBurger will be sorely missed. Re: Best Burger - 10/10/20 06:10 PM

Well there are a lot of good places to get a burger. The ones I do at my house are really good and I prefer the best. What I do is 80/20 ground prime beef. I dont know if the prime beef is that important but I can always get it at HEB when Im getting my steaks. But the 80/20 ratio most definitely is. Then I make them about 8 0z. Seasoning is optional but there are times that I use a little Lawry's Seasoning Salt or I just use salt and pepper. Before they go on the cooker I take my finger and put a depression in the middle. This helps with the shrinkage. Last the most important is how they are cooked in my opinion. Frying just does not cut it. I use my Primo smoker and lump charcoal. Absolutely lighter fluid is never used in getting the charcoal lit. I get the Primo temp stable at 350 degrees and on they go. Pull them off when the internal temp is around 150 degrees which has them a little pink in the middle but still real juicy. A slice of Colby Jack cheese is added for those who want a cheese burger. As for the lump charcoal which can effect the taste also, I prefer Rockwood Lump. It adds a nice flavor without over powering the meat. I order it through my local Ace Hardware.
