Smokestack Restaurant Mingus - 05/04/21 04:49 PM
So, any of you guys ever eat at the funky Smokestack Restaurant in Mingus about an hour west of Weatherford on the 20? I have driven by this place dozens of times and finally stopped a couple of weeks ago at about 1 pm. I have seen the parking lot jammed at different times as I drove by so I was surprised to pull into a gravel lot full of potholes and mud puddles. I went in and the interior looked as bad as the exterior but I was committed so I sat down anyway. To say the place is rustic is giving it a few notches above reality.
Anyway, the menu was pretty good so I ordered the Senior Catfish plate for $6.95 and the wife ordered the Club Sandwich which I believe was about $9.95. The Special on the board was Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, bread and homemade cherry cobbler for dessert...all for $8.95. I saw a few of these go out and the portions were huge. My fish platter came and I was expecting one or two catfish pieces since it was a senior dish.....wrong! I got six pieces of catfish, mashed potatoes, bread and green beans; it literally covered the platter. Best catfish I have ever had, period! Wife's club was made with slabs of real smoked turkey, not the deli slices you usually see.
They have a big breakfast menu, 1/2 lb burgers, steaks and almost everything one could want as long as you are not a queer or a communist. I give this place a thumbs up as long as you are not a stuck up Austin type in which case you should keep on driving down the 20.
