I had to pay $365 today.

Wrote a check for about 10 times that much. Sucks

Wrote a check to IRS for $5100+ last week.

I think the check was $650. The main issue was the Godzilla like amount paid in prior to the check.

They appreciate the free loan.

My ultimate target is for them to owe me $1 just so they have to go thru the hassle of depositing it in my account. Closest I ever came was the owed me $131.

I got back $7100 this year. I usually about break even but I had some irregular deductions in 2016.

Got back $1000 this year. We flip flop between getting and paying depending on a few factors.

Got back a little. Need to do something about the tax code. Flat tax or fair tax and get rid of these deductions so I'm not giving an interest free loan every year.

Paid a little state, got a little back in federal, so broke even.

Got back $4,900, that quite a bit less than prior years, blame that on my sugar mama.

I paid in about $6,000 more at the end of the year to go along with the 23,000 that I had previously paid through payroll deductions. Still feel blessed and equalled almost 18% of my annual income. Could be alot worse.

Not really a meaningful question. The meaningful question is "What was your effective tax rate for 2016?"

Mine was zero, but only because I had a huge tax credit for all the tuition and fees I paid. Trust me, I'd rather have paid $2,000 in taxes than $22,000 in tuition.

Oh, I know, but that's the trap that the IRS wants everyone to fall into. "How much of a refund did you get?" as opposed to "How much did you end up paying in taxes?"

Filing as a Sub S helps a bunch!

If the previous 2 accountants would have told me this back in 2013 I would be in a much better spot right now. Live and learn and just make it happen

Several years ago a good friend was crying as he wrote a check for 472,000. That was on top of what he had paid quarterly. Life's a B when you make that kind of money.

This is exactly correct. I got back just shy of $10K this year. That doesn't make me feel any better about the amount I paid them over the course of the year which was many times that $10K.

Yup. I paid an enormous amount in taxes, got a refund on some stuff, but doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

We got ours back a month or so ago. I think it was 5-6K. They tell me every year to have less withheld, but I like the refund. How much of that 5-6k would be left if you had it in your hot little hand to spend? I'm betting not much for most people.

we are getting back a good amount, but it could take another 6-8 weeks. Someone hacked my wife's works HR dept and got every ones SS. So when we tried to file electrically it was rejected cause someone had already filed under my wife's ss number.

Did they get a check too? Did they get caught?

don't know just know we had to fill out an affidavit with proof of who my wife was. Had to send in copies of wife's DL, passport, and SS card

I'm real curious to know how often that is done...check written and cashed.

I had my credit card # stolen and used in Tampa to pay a water bill ($250). They knew who did it...cause they tracked my "payment". I asked if they would go after that person...they said NO.

BTW it happens daily they said. I wonder if that happens with taxes too. I bet so.

And if it's done to taxes, that means we as tax payers are paying for the "loss" to the budget.

They also got to my bank accounts. I had to run to tyler during the OT Tourney to put some cash in the bank due to someone using our account online. Was a real pain in the A. Her company has now paid for a years worth of credit protection with experian.

Yes, Idenity theft and taxes are usually overlooked by the IRS if it is an illegal alien. US citizen they go after, not so much for an illegal.

Paid the state of Alabama $255 on Friday.

We get a check for 6K+.

Renting the shop and the new welder were big deductions.

Plus the large charitable contributions.

Or the fact we changed CPA'S and are now using a retired 2 star General.

I have only had to pay once before, and it was just a few hundred many many years ago.
They got me this year....looks like they will get $3k +/- from me.....and I am not happy.
That's what inheritance will do for you.

They do need to fix the tax code/laws. They withhold from my military retirement check just to give it all back to me without interest. Used to be they didn't do a withholding from it, but that changed many years back.

paid $401. Glad I did not make same mistake as last year. I forgot to hit the submit return button. Glad I was getting a small refund. You can file late with no big deal as long as you are getting a refund. I was 6 weeks late and not a peep out of Uncle Sam.

Filed in early March, received back $1500, which is less than what I got last year, which is less than I got the year before, and the year before, etc...

Its not like they included their address dna sample ss# bank account and routing number and a free custom tailored fake ID to complete the deal.

Crazy right? I had to pay $6.4 million on the $26 million I made pimping last year. Good thing since the illegal drugs I sell are well illegal, I don't report my income from those sales. This year I'm going to employ illegal girls to help avoid even more taxes.

More taxes paid = more money made, last I checked. My goal is to make 7 zero's and pay lots of taxes and is better than the alternative.

Neither does the bank. Back in the day when a person could get a 5-10% CD, it was really important to 'break even' at the end of the year. Now not so much.

3 years ago made too much and paid almost 5 figures. 2 years ago just a grand, and this year $500.

I like it better when I pay because it means I made more that year.
