Knife Sharpening - 11/06/16 02:30 AM
Someone, who shall remain unnamed, knocked his tri-hone knife sharpener off a shelf and it broke. Now he needs a new one. Suggestions?
No work sharp belt sander types or v shaped business.

I use my belt sander with a worn belt holding the blade at and angel away from the direction of the belt rotation and finish them with a rod. It is quick and quite satisfactory. Not up to the standards of school-of-the-art sharpening I'm sure, but it serves my purpose.

my suggestion is just get a good stone, I like to do it by hand "more control" I use any stone that works for me no brand loyalty, just put an edge on my kukuri with a stone ready to chop something.

Get a set of quality Arkansas stones (available through Rockler Woodworking). I have a course, medium, and extra fine that I have been using for 15 years now and will last met the rest of my life. All 3 can be had for under $100. They are large enough to handle anything you want to put on them.
