Got an opportunity to go there for work and know nothing about the place

Yes. I hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. Stayed in Cuzco before and after the hike. Cuzco is a decent city. Nice people, walkable, good food. Touristy, though. We felt safe there, even at night.

I never left Lima's airport, but I hear it's a rough city.

Sheldon has spent more time there for work and may be able to provide more info. Oh, one more thing: you can't flush toilet paper in Peru, like a lot of south and Central American countries.

Yes I see they do. I wouldn't go anywhere you can get dinner at a pet smart.

I watched a food show where they keep them in the house like pets in a cage then just snatch one up, chop the head off and cook lol.

If you mean Payara, the locals where I lived called them Chambira. Small Piranhas make good bait for these.
