Caitlin Clark - 03/30/24 08:02 PM

I don’t watch women’s basketball but it’s time to see what all the hype is about. We’ll see if I can make it through the first half.

I’m a Hawkeye by proxy (daughter went there), but she long since graduated and I don’t pay much attention to them anymore. I’ve not seen this person play, only a few highlights, I guess she good

Agree. I watched about 3 quarters. She also has one of the best handles I’ve seen from a chick.

She whines about calls more than Luka. She taunts after 3's, and other in-game antics and the midwest crowd calls it "passion & emotion". Interestingly when Angel Reese does the same sh!t it's labeled "classless & thuggish".

Shut up and play....

That would not prove anything but she could beat someone who was a bad shooter 40 years ago in YMCA league.

You would be $1,000 richer.

I would tap the brakes on comparisons to Pistol Pete (all time NCAA scoring leader averaging 47 points a game in the SEC with no three point line and only three years playing as Freshmen were not eligible for varsity back in the day)

….lets say Jimmer Fredette-esque.

They are a different “version/style” of basketball. Not exactly “like” men, but not subpar in the sense of playing in the spirit of the game. It’s for some, not for some.

I have some opinions on watching women play basketball - NCAA or pro. My internet friend DFitz encouraged me to share them. Let’s just say, I believe women should focus on perfecting other skills.

Re: Caitlin Clark - 04/01/24 10:31 PM

I saw Maravich play and I have watched Clark play. Both have tremendous talent, but comparing the two is difficult. It takes nothing away from Clark’s talent or her record, but these are different times and place.

“ In 1966, when Maravich arrived at LSU, where his father, Press Maravich, coached, freshmen were not permitted to play for the varsity squad. Maravich’s all-time scoring mark was set during just 83 games across three seasons from 1967 to 1970 — and during an era when there was no shot clock, and no 3-point line.

Maravich averaged 44.2 points per game. He scored more than 60 in a game four times, topping out at 69 against Alabama on Feb. 7, 1970.”

I had a niece that had out of control growth plates. She was about the size of Kong in second grade. She averaged 90 pts/ game and once scored 120 points against a bunch of other second graders. She never passed the ball…just waddled down court and slam dunked it with authority.

Anyway, if she wasn’t so good at dunking on 2nd graders and chose to pass the ball instead, I feel like she could have broken Pistol Pete’s record more than that Clark girl.

Not only that, but the disparity in women’s basketball is way bigger than on the men’s side. It’s not even close. Pistol Pete is the greatest college basketball player of all time, and there will never be one better. Caitlin Clark is the greatest women’s basketball player of all time, and there may never be one like her.

Re: Caitlin Clark - 04/02/24 11:28 AM

I haven’t watched her but judging by news reports she is a stud when playing against other women

Anyone thinking women can truly play against men are kidding themselves

MJ or Lebron wouldn’t even get on a court against her . They wouldn’t shame themselves to do that, neither would any other man in their sport
I don’t think their is any doubt she is one of, if not the best women player to come along but to compare her against men When she has not competed against them is stupid
She does not have the success or points if she is on a man’s team and competing
Posted By: patriot07

Re: Caitlin Clark - 04/02/24 12:14 PM

Heck of a player. Comparing her to men is unrealistic. Even if a non-contact sport like golf, when they've brought women over through the years, none have been competitive with anything except men who don't really have their A game at the moment. It would be worse in a contact sport like basketball where the differences in athleticism would play a significant role.

That said, I'm fully not supporting men claiming to be women in women's sports, so for a woman to dominate her game like this is impressive, noteworthy, and I'm not gonna dog her for not being able to compete in a sport that she doesn't play. Men's & women's games aren't even really the same thing.

I agree my point was no real man is going to want to go compete against lower class athletics. I played Coed softball in my late 30's into my 40's, but I was never interested in competing against women when I was a young man. I enjoyed being better than men and women couldn't compete at later age it was more about entertainment and still getting to play ball with a girlfriend.

I don't see what any man gets out of beating women. That would be like MLB competing against high school teams its not fair and not real competitions

I think some conversations have happened with her and 3v3 ice cube league. She wouldn’t fare too well..

There are men (players) in this league (not Ice Cube or league officials) that have said they want to compete against Caitlin Clark?

Cube offered her $5 million to play. That’s all I’ve seen. Haven’t seen any of the players in the league say they want her to play. The only reason I can think of them wanting her to is that more people would watch it if she did. But it wouldnt be a good idea for her brand.
