Germania - 03/16/24 08:00 AM

Going up $500 on house and $ 600 on 3 cars , no such thing as a fixed income
$7500.00 and that doesn't include the boat , Germania won't insure boats any more

Germania getting out of Texas home insurance business. They will allow "grandfathered in" but you will have to pay for it. Going sky high is their way to get you off their books without canceling you out.

Yep, ours went up $445 since last year with zero claims so now our agent is shopping around for us.

Insurance increases were ridiculous this year. Welcome to more Bidenomics. Our vehicle insurance went up the most. Shopped that hard but couldn’t get much lower. Ended up saving on Homeowners. That equaled about 2/3 the amount they were increasing.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 12:06 PM

I am in the process of changing insurance. I had been with same company and same agency for years. Nevera home claim and no vehicle claims in probably 10-15 years. Last boat claim was 5 years ago.

The increases got dumb. Found an independent agent who saved us an obscene amount and we are still with a well known company. Actually slightly better coverage too. I have known the agent for years so it's legit. He saved us serious money.

That's what i think i need is a agent to look for the best price

Predict there's going to be (if not already) a whole bunch of underinsured folks in the near future. The increase's are obscene and unsustainable for many in this inflationary economy.

Quite a lot of Panhandle fire victims didn't have home owners insurance . They said they have to eat and pay bills and put gas in there cars

Good luck. Our home/auto went up 25% and I could not find better rates. This is the piece of inflation that has hit us the hardest.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 01:01 PM

We got our Germania renewal policy this week

Our deductible went from $4000 to $12,000. There are a bunch of new restrictions. For instance - they will no longer pay for hail damage unless there is water intrusion.

Our rates went up last year

It will get much worse thanks to the vast influx of non-insured illegal drivers. Can you imagine the payouts from Insurance companies for "uninsured motorist" claims? Nice.

My Germania auto went from $503 last year to $1100 this year. No accidents or tickets in over a decade. Time to be looking elsewhere.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 02:34 PM

My son owns 2 insurance companies, and he always shops around for us, making sure the coverage is Apples to Apples. We just put on a new roof with Grade 4 shingles and it lowered our house insurance drastically.

On our vehicles 2017 F-150 and 2019 Camry, we went from 1245 every six months to 1660 a year.

Shop around.

With the increasing cost of replacement or repair, it should be expected that insurance will increase in cost, though it is painful.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 04:12 PM

As was said before Germania is looking to get out of TX. Not writing new business and along with the increase I believe all homeowners will have a 3% wind/hail deductible. They won’t cancel existing customers but the increase along with very large deductible will intentionally lose them lots of customers which is the goal. Higher deductibles is the trend for all companies though for the most part.

My wife switched us from Geico to progressive on our vehicles this morning, they were about half as much for the same coverage. We roofed our house in 2008 with 30 year shingles for $7,400 we replaced them this year and the cost was over $14,000. The insurance costs are following suit. There is no shingles made that will last 30 years in the panhandle.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 05:06 PM

Renewed ours in February. Went up 40% to $3,900. I got 3 quotes from an independent agent. Came in at $6,300 $7,400 and $9,500. I was blown away.

It’s totally out of control.

If you can afford the hit of the loss than no. If you still have a mortgage on your home than you are probably required to under the terms of your loan.

I just had this conversation with my wife. We are both 52 and starting to look where we want to retire. We live in a nice house and great neighborhood but the taxes and insurance are going to kill us in retirement. Currently it is 1K a month in taxes and insurance to live here. I can't imagine what they will be in 10 years from now.

Re: Germania - 03/16/24 11:46 PM

Yeah, had them for years and loved them! Then, ours went up over $3000 last year. I went with Branch through Goosehead. I'll be going with Texas Farm Bureau in a week or so at renewal.

Insurance is always optional

In my opinion the value you get for the small amount you pay make most insurance worth it

Re: Germania - 03/17/24 11:23 AM

Germania used to be and still maybe be very good homeowners policies to have

Back in the day if I had a customer with Germania they were very good to work with.
