The 69 Ford Mustang fastback was the best-looking car ever made. I had one in 1974, but there was a problem with every system on it. I sold it for peanuts to a kid with parents that had a lot of money and fixed it.

I know it’s not your typical muscle car (71 chevelle). Bought in Arizona in 71 as our family car. Dad (now 82) still pulls it out occasionally to wash and take for a drive smile.

Something special about a muscle car, old or new.

Re: Classic cars - 12/26/23 08:44 AM

Paying anything more than 25K for these cars is dumb.
Sure, they look cool, but they crave TLC and babysitting.

Re: Classic cars - 12/26/23 09:21 AM

My first car looked exactly like this. I bought it for $400 in January of 1964 when I was a freshman at UT. Sure wish I had it today.

Re: Classic cars - 12/26/23 11:24 AM

had a 66 like the op, 390/3 speed auto, maroon. car was in perfect condition.

traded it for a 54 f1 sitting on a 56 military ambulance frame/drive train with a 428 cobra jet/c 6.

all in kalifornicate, drove the truck back to Okieland (top speed was about 60 due to gearing) with a great dane and a friend in the seat.

would love to have either back but the truck was special, one of the first "monster trucks", sat 8' to top of cab and would climb a tree if you wanted to.

that was all back in 77

love the muscle car era vehicles, any of them but my favorites are ford and mopar, anyone could have a cheby back then but a fast ford or mopar was better imo.

I am gonna have to call BS on 3000 HP with a tiny little Coyote motor ..... You would be hard pressed to do that with a Godzilla motor.

Second car was a 59 Impala. 348 c.i. engine with a 4 brl carb. It would not pass a gas station. Terrible gas mileage! Had gray rolled and pleated naugahyde interior. I drove it until I went in the Army in 1967.

Selling my 69 SS Camaro is one of them.

Re: Classic cars - 12/26/23 04:40 PM

Last one I'll post. When I got home from Vietnam I bought my first new car. I paid $3,000 cash for a '68 Olds 442. It was royal blue and I drove it for several years until I got married and started feeling like an adult who need an adult type auto. Stupid, stinking thinking.

hard to tell it looks like slicks on the back. But it doesn't look like enough room to light them up? I will be interested in his answer, Good looking car either way

I wonder if its a bored 427 or 454 with a 427 stroker shaft

Re: Classic cars - 12/27/23 01:08 PM

Clearly not a muscle car but a classic in BMW circles, my 1991 318is looked just like this red one (before my three kids put six years of learner driving on it). Nimble little beast with a high rev engine with smooth shifting gear box, felt like driving a go cart. Closest you could get to the classic BMW 2002 look and feel since they introduced the 3 series.
