There is NO greatest, only "favorite."

Once they get really good, they are all pretty much the same.

My fave is "Johnny Winter"!

My most hated is joe bossonava, or whatever his name is.
I can't stand that guy. He does nothing original, and his music sucks.
Yea, I know, he has tons of fans, but we all have our likes and dislikes.

The best I’ve ever seen live was Earl “the Pearl” Banks. A true legend in the Memphis Blues Scene. He has played with all the greats. The Pearl is the dressed in black with the black hat. These were taken Christmas 2020 at the Blues City Cafe. Mr Earl wanted to meet the little girl that fell asleep during his set. Great memory . Thanks [Linked Image]

I don’t remember the name of this cat but man he could sing some blues. He was part of Earls group. He sat with us. Funny guy that could sing.

Re: Greatest blues guitarists - 11/26/23 06:33 AM

IMO Jimmy Vaughan is every bit as good of a blues guitar player as Stevie was…he’s just very different. Definitely in the top group of my “favorite blues guitarists” ever list. Everything he plays says something.

Usually when you hear bands play live, the bass and drums set the pocket. Whenever I see Jimmy play live, his playing sets the pocket, and then he plays just a touch behind the beat and makes a filthy groove!

And talk about a smokin’ live guitar track. Just focus in on what he’s playing - start to finish - good lawd it’s just nasty! Same thing…his guitar playing sets pocket and he plays just behind the beat…genius!

Sawhorse...you've got to be kidding?? I've played professionally for 30 years and I'm telling you Jimmy can't hold Stevie's jock strap when it comes to playing ANY kind of music. Some people just have "it". Little brother did, big brother not so much.

Nope, not kidding, and I love Stevie Ray’s playing. They’re completely different. I love what Jimmy has to say as much as I love what Stevie Ray had to say.

I guess that's why we have multiple genres of music and different flavor ice cream. I lived about 4 or 5 blocks from the Vaugn brothers mom near Kiest Park in the late 70's and have seen both brothers up close and personal multiple times. I have just never "gotten" Jimmy. He's, to me, just ok. If I can play ANYTHING anyone else can play...they ain't that good! LOL! I may try to post up a little blues jam on here if I can work one up. Been out of the music biz and playing since around 2000. Still love it, but just don't play much any more.

Saw Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets years ago at J&J's Blues Bar in Ft. Worth. He's a a local from Plano. Had an old blind man who sang vocals and could wail on

a blues harp named Sam Myers.

SRV had the blues down. Jimmie is a technically good guitar player.

Howlin' Wolf was great.

So was Pinetop Perkins.

Gary Clark, Jr. is awesome. (local guy)

Van Wilks (local guy) doing a Traffic cover.

Denny Freeman (another local guy)

Carolyn Wonderland (local girl). Recently toured with John Mayall.

WC Clark (local guy)

Paul Ray and the Cobras with a young SRV (local)
